It... really depends on how patriotic your friend is. And which political party they side with.

There are some idiots in Taiwan who want to go back to being under Chinese rule. There are some other idiots in Taiwan who want Taiwan to become a US state, or at least a US territory.

Best to check with her instead. If you already called her Chinese in the past and she never said anything about it, she might be fine with it. Or too shy/polite to correct you in front of others.
