When Rosen pulled away, Long's eyes were closed and a little color had returned to his face.
"You are not disgusting," Rosen told him quietly, hand still on his, "because if you were, I wouldn't hang out with you. You are weird," he stated, "because if you weren't, I wouldn't hang out with you."
That didn't seem to help too much. But thankfully it didn't seem to do any more harm. He slowly blinked open his eyes as he moved to turn forward again.
Rosen stared at Long before suddenly turning his face back towards him with his hand, ignoring the pain for once in his life, and kissed Long right on the lips.
Long jerked a little, almost pulling away. His face got warmer as he blushed a little. But he couldn't seem to find the courage to kiss him back.
Rosen finally did pull away, "You are not disgusting!" he said more forcefully, "Don't you dare look in the mirror and think that. You said you wanted to start over? Then stop focusing on the past, you blockhead!"
Long looked away as if he thought that was impossible.
Rosen forced his head back again, "Do you want to start over or not?!" he almost shouted.
After a moment Long barely whispered, "It's too hard."
Rosen cussed and dropped his hand away, "I never counted you as a quitter," he spat, "It's a lot easier to jump off the cliff than it is to face your fears, isn't it?" He cussed again, eyes going a little manic, "Alright then," he decided, "if you're giving up than so am I. I'm sick of this world as much as you." And he stood, yanking the IV out, and started to walk off in the general direction of the cliffs.
Long stayed sitting at the bench for a few moments before standing and grabbing the wheel chair. He caught up with Rosen before suddenly he was in front of him and pushed him back so he'd fall in the wheel chair.
Rosen twisted midair so he fell to the side of the chair. He landed with a thud before slowly sitting up, "Did I ask for your help?" he growled.
"No," Long replied simply.
"Then back off," he glared.
"No," Long repeated.
Rosen laughed cryptically, "Oh, so you suddenly care about me? Or perhaps it's just cause I'm your ticket to going outside." His entire demeanor had flipped.
"... It's my job," Long replied simply.
"What the terra are you talking about?" Rosen demanded.
"I'm still your bodyguard," Long explained blankly. "I must protect you from anyone who wishes you harm - including yourself."
Rosen stared at him dumbly, "Oh, wonderful," he muttered sarcastically, "Now you decided to do it. Well too bad, I already fired you and hired Wolfe like you wanted!" he spat, sick of this conversation.
"You never informed me," Long replied simply.
"Well I'm informing you now!" he decided, struggling to stand up.
Long nodded a little, pausing before replying, "Well, since Wolfe is present to perform his duties, I'm obligated as a bodyguard to act in his stead to protect you." He seemed to take his profession very seriously.
Rosen stared at him blankly, not believing what he was hearing.
Long continued to stand between Rosen and the cliff.
Rosen continued to stare, "Even the best bodyguard cannot stand forever between a man who wishes to die and death," he stated seriously.
Long didn't reply, but he was still standing.
"Get out of my way, coward," Rosen spat at him as he finally managed to stand.
Long stood his ground.
"What right to do you think you have, one who has given up... to keep me from giving up?" Rosen questioned harshly, taking a step forward.
Long didn't answer the question.
"Then get out of the way," Rosen murmured coldly, trying to step around him.
Long remained frozen until Rosen crossed an invisible line he had drawn in his mind. Then he quickly stepped, trying to push Rosen back in the chair again.
This time Rosen fell back into the chair, cursing Long harshly, "You're such a hypocrite!" he shouted at him.
Long didn't appear phased, waiting to see if Rosen was going to try to stand.
Rosen did try to stand, cursing all the while.
Long let Rosen stand, but every time he crossed the invisible line, Long knocked him back again.
Finally, the pain in Rosen's hands seemed to catch up with him and when he fell back into the chair he stayed there, biting his lip to keep from crying out as he glared at Long through tearing eyes.
Long waited a little longer before walking over to Rosen and putting the IV back in. His eyes were blank; it was easier for him to fall back into old habit than make sense of the present.
"Yeah, that's right. Escape back into yourself, coward!" Rosen spat at him, "Two can play that game."
