Long sat down on the bench he had parked Rosen next to. That looked like the plan.
Rosen squinted in the sun for awhile before turning to stare at Long, "Why are you doing this?" he asked.
"The doctor said to get some sun," Long replied blankly.
Rosen made a face, "Stop being nice to me," he spat.
"... I wasn't aware I was being nice," Long replied.
Rosen looked away, "Stop..." he muttered, "You just forget everything... and I'll be stuck with it all."
"... I'm not going to be sent back," Long replied after a moment.
"You will," Rosen muttered, still looking away, "It's simple to delete even years of memories of us."
"I asked Wolfe to be sent back and he said no," Long replied quietly.
Rosen snorted, "Your abuser is there, why would you want to go back?"
Long still seemed confused by that. But after another moment or two Long explained, "If I'm not going back, then my memory won't be erased."
"It'll be erased... you want to go back and eventually, you will," Rosen reasoned.
Long didn't reply.
Rosen sat in the sun for awhile with his eyes closed. "... I'm scared," he suddenly whispered. The sun treatment seemed to be working.
Long was still quiet.
Rosen fell silent again for awhile, "You make... me really mad," he muttered, "... I don't like..." he paused for a long moment, "how much you effect me."
Still nothing. Long still wasn't reading too much into his outbursts; figuring the pain causing most of it.
Rosen suddenly asked, "Did you kiss me?"
Long didn't reply.
Rosen turned and stared at Long, demanding an answer.
Long didn't look back at Rosen, wondering why his silence wasn't enough of an answer.
Rosen stared for awhile before looking back at the sky, "Liar," he muttered.
Long kept his lips sealed.
Rosen sighed a little, "You could escape now, you realize of course," he mused, "Kill me and fly off back to the abusing, stifling and tyrannical Yin Long."
Still nothing from Long.
Rosen stared at his hands for awhile, "Do you hate me?" he asked.
Long paused before shaking his head.
"Why not?" Rosen asked, staring back at his hands.
"Why should I hate you?" Long asked instead.
"Because... I'm part of the people who've taken everything away from you. Who have made you confused, made you unsure of who you are," Rosen whispered.
There was a long pause before Long shrugged. "Before... that... I never had the time to wonder who I was."
"But you obviously don't like it," Rosen spat, "You wanted to go back!"
"... I..." Long started, but stopped. There was a very deep pain in his voice. He shook his head a little, not sure if he could continue.
Rosen turned on Long, "You asked me if you could start over!" he declared loudly, "You wanted to change things! Then you go behind my back and ask Wolfe to either kill you or send you back. What the terra am I supposed to believe now? Obviously, you don't want anything to do with me and yet here we are!"
"... I..." Long whispered again, head in his hands now. He struggled for the words. When he couldn't find them he just said, "I look in the mirror... and my reflection makes me sick." And for the first time, Rosen heard pure hatred in Long's voice.
Rosen stared at Long for awhile before he slowly reached out and put a bandaged hand lightly on Long's shoulder.
Long didn't move, head still in his hands.
Rosen found himself at a loss for words again which irritated him. He moved his bandaged hand so it was covering one of Long's, "Look at me, Long," he ordered quietly.
Long clearly didn't want to. But he slowly pulled his hands away from his face enough to turn his head to glance at Rosen. He looked like he was drowning in the hatred he felt for himself.
There seemed to be something similar going on behind Rosen's eyes but not to such an extreme extent. Once Rosen could see Long's eyes he leaned forward and kissed the bridge between his eyebrows.
