Fin nodded, wiping his forehead off with the bottom of his shirt.
"There are showers for the skatepark over here," she told Fin, picking up her skateboard and walking off.
So Fin followed Bren.
There were simple stalls of showers, Bren took one of the far left and disappeared inside. Soon water could be heard.
Fin went to the one on the far right. He didn't take more than five minutes.
Bren was still in the shower when he finished.
So Fin went to do some more light skateboarding.
"Long?" Rosen asked quietly after an hour or so.
Long didn't reply, still laying down and staring at the ceiling like before.
Rosen was silent for a long moment, "Do you miss your sister?" he asked.
It didn't look like Long was going to reply. But then he whispered, "Yes."
"Do you miss Sheng?" Rosen asked quietly.
Long was silent for a little while, finding that a funny question. "Yes," he decided quietly.
Rosen was silent for a long time. "... I miss people too," he finally whispered.
Long paused for a moment. "... Your family isn't here?" he whispered.
It didn't seem like Rosen was going to answer but finally he whispered back, "... I have no family."
Long was silent for a minute before asking, "Who do you miss?"
Rosen sighed a long sigh before slowly listing off, "Ashly, Bettina, Jarod, Dalene, Tawanna, Babara, Donnie, Avis, Carlena," and went on listing names of both girls and boys for a few minutes, ending with "... Missy."
Long was silent for a minute before noting, "That's a lot of people to miss."
"They don't miss me," Rosen muttered bitterly.
"... Why?" Long asked quietly.
Rosen was silent for a few long minutes. Then he muttered in a low, heavy voice, "... because... they've been erased of me."
Long was silent for another minute before replying, "People have been erased of me too," he told Rosen. "But... I don't remember their names. But there are probably more people I've been erased of. There's... a lot I don't remember."
"I wish I wouldn't remember," Rosen muttered bitterly, "You are lucky not to remember."
Long shook his head a little. "No," he disagreed darkly. "I'm not."
Rosen slowly rolled over onto his back, staring at the ceiling as well, "You could never understand," he whispered simply.
"And you could never understand my position," he replied.
Rosen chuckled a little, "Every person I've ever met has been erased of me. I keep all of their memories inside of me but they are released of them. But we can never forget. The neonates can never forget. I'm sick of it," he spat.
Long was silent for a few minutes before replying, "The gaps didn't used to bother me." He shook his head. "But now that I have time to try and put the pieces together... I can't. What horrible things have I done and don't remember? What... else has happened to me that I can't remember?"
"Stop freaking out over things you can't remember, idiot," Rosen spat, "What's the point? You'll never know."
"Why miss people who don't remember you," Long snapped back.
Rosen rolled back over onto his side away from Long.
So Long said nothing more, considering the conversation finished.
"It doesn't matter what I say to you anyway," Rosen muttered resentfully after a pause, "You'll be on the list in the end."
Long didn't bother replying to that.
The day had finally come. With Yue's help James was packed up and had his staff get this costumes to the huge stage hoovercrafts.
Wolfe was mysteriously absent from the chaos which he usually directed. And so was Frei. Nic could tell that Laurel was still very hesitant to go on this tour with everyone but she didn't bother Nic about it again. "At least with the fire I don't have much to pack," she chuckled. Bren went to find Fin to make sure he was ready to go. |
Raven tried helping out and directing a little without being too bossy in Wolfe's absence.
Fin has still been acting off, spending most of his time in the library and away from other people including Frei. |
When Bren finally found him she put her hands on her hips, "Hey, we're leaving! Have you packed yet?" she inquired not unkindly.
Fin nodded. "... I'm almost done," he replied quickly as he flipped to the next page in the book he was reading.
"We're boarding now, you need a pick a Juttle," she explained, "Do you want to be on the same one as Frei?"
