"No, I mean something else...something that feels like you...close by." Red said excitedly.
"Which direction?" Quarrel asked, smiling a little bit.
"You're going the right way." Red said anxiously. "How do you know this?"
"I remember where it was from when I could feel it," Quarrel explained, ducking down as he heard a group of guards pass by - they headed the opposite direction, not coming anywhere near the two boys. "Come on."
He slipped up to a room and manually pushed the door open, peering inside. The power was back on in this area - another room with tubes, different from the one he'd been in before. |
"What the hell is this place?" Red breathed- looking around.
"Look," Quarrel breathed - pointing toward one of the tubes, where the form of a young child was curled up. "It's so quick... and he's not an infant..."
"It's a little boy!" Red breathed. "Get him out...magic this thing open!"
"I can't tell if the process is done or not," Quarrel informed, frowning. "What if he's not done being created? What if his organs aren't strong enough!?"
"We can't leave him!" Red said desperately.
Quarrel slipped up to the tube and pressed his hands against it, frowning.
There was a moment of stillness before suddenly the figure inside shifted and opened his eyes. They were so pale as the looked out at Q.
Staring into the figure's pale eyes, Quarrel reached out and touched the glass.
The little boy inside curled himself slowly and reached up- pressing his hand again Quarrel's on the other side of the glass.
"...Q, get him outta there." Red said quietly. |
Closing his eyes, Quarrel attempted to drown out the noise in his head long enough to unlock the door on the tube.
It sprang open, liquid leaking out. The Silver moved over and pried it open, catching the boy as he spilled out. |
Red grabbed a lab coat off the back of one of the chairs and moved to wrap it around the little boy as he coughed up a lungful of oxygenated liquid.
Quarrel rubbed his back to try and soothe him, giving Red a nod of thanks as he scooped the child into his arms.
"You can't have him." Came a voice and Red whirled to find his fathers right hand standing in the doorway. "You have any idea the implications of removing him?"
"Get out of our way!" Quarrel snapped, holding the child closer.
"You've interrupted his development." The man took a step forward. "You have any idea what that may have done to him? He doesn't belong to you!"
"Quarrel, get him out." Red said. |
"I wont leave you," Quarrel hissed. "He's got no power - he can't hold us if we fight him."
"I can't let you take him." The man said. "You don't understand the risks."
"We're not going to let you keep him!" Quarrel snapped.
"You think you can?" The man asked. "Really?"
"I'll die trying, if I have to," Quarrel whispered, his eyes narrowed dangerously.
"You're looking the wrong direction." The man smirked. "Go on, go if you can."
He nodded. Red grabbed the taller boy's arm and pulled him out quickly. |
Quarrel followed along behind Red, his entire body tense as he held the child close.
With all these voices in his mind he couldn't detect attacks and it was making him nervous. |
Suddenly...silence...no...just a single voice...someone humming softly and tunelessly. It was drowning out all the noise. Red was rushing with his hand locked onto Q's wrist- leaving the boy stumbling behind him.
Quarrel frowned in confusion as he was lead along. Who was drowning out the noise? It couldn't have been Red...
The thoughts that drifted into his mind weren't his own but they weren't really words like with normal people, they were more like...feelings and simple things. Like appreciating how warm he was to be up against.
Quarrel's eyes widened and he peered down at the boy in his arms.
The little one's eyes were closed and he nuzzled into Q's chest slowly with a soft smile on his pale face. His hair wasn't so much bleach white as it was a gleaming platinum color that was almost blinding.
Shifting the little one, Quarrel continued along with Red - enjoying the comfortable feeling that came with the silence, save for the humming and feelings.
"Shit!" Red ducked down- pulling Q down with him as guards came rushing up the other corridor.
Quarrel tucked up against Red quietly, holding the little boy protectively as he watched the guards run by.
"We can't just sneak by these guys, they're all over." Red whispered.
"Hi?" Came a small voice and Red blinked down at the little boy before putting a finger to his lips to try and signal him to be quiet. |
"Shhh," Quarrel whispered to him gently, trying to soothe the boy with his mind.
Was this how it felt to be a parent? He felt a connect with the child, almost like the one he felt with Red... |
But then shouldn't he have felt that as strongly in Kayen?
"Hi?" The boy chirped up again before he blinked at them and then looked at the guards with his pale eyes. |
"Shhh," Quarrel said again, gently, as he looked around them with his bright silver eyes.
"What was that?" One of the men walked over and spotted them. "Hey!"
"Shhh!" The little boy hissed before the man flew back into the wall and splattered against it like an over-ripe tomato. |
Quarrel's eyes went wide and his entire body went stiff with shock.
