Fin paused for a moment before asking, "What is it?"
"It's something kinda silly actually," Laurel chuckled with a shrug, "if Frei ever talks about a lab, just let me know."
Fin blinked. "Why?" he asked.
Laurel leaned in, "I'm playing a game with Frei, but it's a secret so I can't tell you what exactly," she smiled, "Will you do it?"
Fin blinked. "... Sure," he replied quietly. She came upset and then she wants a favor for some game? Something smelled fishy, but he tried not to let Laurel know.
"Thanks Fin!" Laurel smiled, "Sorry I freaked you out with that hug..." she said sheepishly, "your brother just... left for awhile and you're the closest thing to him."
Fin just nodded a little.
Laurel nodded a little, "Is there anything you need, Fin? Is Raven making sure you have everything?"
Fin nodded again.
Laurel nodded back, "If I see Frei, I'll send her your way, okay?" she chuckled, giving him a wink before standing to leave.
Fin didn't say anything, going back to his reading.
Laurel went in search of Yue next.
-- When Long came too, Rosen was still curled up next to him, arm around him, fast asleep. |
Yue was hanging out with James like usual.
-- Long didn't try to wake Rosen as he pieced together what he could of his scattered memories. |
James grinned as he saw Laurel, "Long time no see~"
Laurel was focused on Yue. |
Yue glanced at James for a brief moment before turning to Laurel.
"Can I... talk to you?" she asked Yue.
"Anytime, anywhere!" James replied, stepping a little too close to her because he winced and backed off. |
Yue glanced at James, putting her hand on his arm briefly before turning back to Laurel and nodding.
James complained, not wanted to be left out of their conversation, but Laurel practically slammed the door to the conference room on James' nose.
"... That's a little harsh," Yue noted.
"He's annoying," Laurel stated bluntly as she turned and sat down, "And coming from you, that a little ironic."
"You're in a bad mood," Yue noted as she took a seat.
"Nic just left," Laurel stated blankly, "Off to find Kale who seems to have gotten lost on some island."
Yue didn't seem all that surprised or all that worried.
Laurel was drumming her fingers on the table and staring off into space.
After a long moment of silence Yue offered, "He can take care of himself."
Laurel turned and glared at Yue a bit, "You think I want to talk to you about Nic?" she asked, "Why the terra would I come to you about anything regarding Nic?"
"... I am his sister," Yue noted.
Laurel smirked, "Oh, that. Yeah, and why did you roll up in the first place again?" she mused, "Being all clinging and lovey-dovey to Nic out of the blue?"
Yue didn't reply.
"Thought so," Laurel replied a little cruelly. "Regardless, that's not why I wanted to talk to you." She leaned in a little, "Do you trust them?" she asked.
"... Them?" Yue asked.
"The neonates," Laurel replied, "Do you trust them?"
Yue was silent for a moment before nodding.
"Why?" Laurel demanded.
"Because I do," Yue replied simply.
"That's a stupid answer," Laurel retorted, "Tell me why."
"Why do you think they shouldn't be trusted?" Yue asked instead.
"Because they have a mission, Yue," Laurel exclaimed "And they'll do everything in their power to complete it. They'll kill, steal, kidnap children. If they can get an edge, they will take it... no matter what!" she stated, voice rising, "How can we trust them at all? We're all buddies now but how long will that last, realistically?" Her eyes grew colder, "Until we get in their way or are of no further use. Do you really want to stick around for that?"
Yue was silent for awhile. "Yes," she decided, undisturbed by Laurel's rage.
"Why?!" Laurel demanded again.
