"But what are we to each other?" Raven asked. "How am I supposed to treat her? If you're her guardian, does that make me her guardian too? Or am I just a friend? Or something else?"
Wolfe didn't seem to understand what he was asking.
Raven sighed a little, not sure how else to phrase it.
"None of us had parents, Raven," Wolfe stated after a moment, "We all raised each other. So I suppose, in a sense, I'm like a parent to her... but because the brain experiments make her think very differently, she's raised herself up to this point and has dealt with everything the best she can. There's no one else like her in the world, no one she can seek advice or true help from. So I suppose, to answer your question, she doesn't need a father or another guardian, she needs someone who will push her and guide her how to behave in a world she does not fit in to. That's someone I cannot be."
Raven was silent for a very long time before nodding his head a little. It was a place to start.
Wolfe nodded back as he returned to eating.
Raven remained quiet, not starting the conversation up again.
Wolfe finished eating before reaching out and putting his hand on Raven's.
Raven glanced at Wolfe, it looked like he had been lost in his thoughts.
"Why are you thinking about your role?" he asked, still a little confused and concerned.
Raven thought about it a little while before replying, "... I just wasn't sure."
Wolfe squeezed his hand, "Don't worry," he told him, "Frei's already fallen for your good guy act." His eyes were teasing a little.
Raven managed to smirk a little. He shrugged a little. "I guess I'm not so bad at faking good," he replied as he reaching in his pocket and pulled out what looked like a small candy box. He put it on the table and pushed it toward Wolfe.
Wolfe blinked at it before taking his free hand and inspecting it.
As Wolfe started to look at the candy box, Raven got up and started to leave. Inside were a couple simple vanilla chocolates for a nice snack along with a folded piece of paper. "But sometimes I can't help but give into my bad nature," he sighed. "See you later, Fa," he told Wolfe teasingly as he turned and began to leave.
Wolfe seemed very confused as he stared at the candies. Then he took the paper and unfolded it.
Raven couldn't help but chuckle a bit to himself as he left. The note scribbled on the piece of paper in Raven's handwriting was very short and to the point. It read, Let's go all the way tonight.
Raven wasn't there to see Wolfe's face match his hair.
-- "Dude!" Rosen nearly shouted as he ran into Long's room, very excited. |
Raven didn't need to be.
-- Long's eyes blinked open sleepily. |
"I finally reached the final level of..." and Rosen started babbling about some game he'd been working on for months.
At least it looked like Long was paying attention. Thought it was unclear how much he was absorbing.
Rosen seemed pretty content to babble on about his game, happy to have an ear to talk to.
So Long continued to lie there looking like he was somewhat paying attention.
Rosen paused for awhile, "You're actually rather nice, aren't you?" he noted.
Long blinked, like he wasn't sure what Rosen meant.
"Most people would have hit be by now... or at least cut me off or tuned me out," he explained, "I mean, I'm not seducing you right now so you're actually willingly paying attention."
Long blinked, still lost somewhere.
"Why are you listening to me?" Rosen tried.
Long frowned a little. "... Why wouldn't I be?" he asked.
"Because I don't think you even know what I'm talking about," Rosen replied, blinking at Long.
Long shrugged.
Rosen tilted his head a little, "Thus, you're polite. THe opposite of Yue."
Long neither confirmed nor denied Rosen's statement.
Rosen shorted a little, "What do you think of her?" he asked, curious.
Long continued to say nothing, face expressionless.
"You don't have to guard your tongue around here, you know. Aren't I enough proof of that?" Rosen explained with an eyeroll.
Long still remained silent. It looked like some of his life's worth of careful conditioning would be difficult to crack.
Rosen sighed a little, "Still boring," he noted before pausing. "What's one thing you like about the Yin Long?" he tried, laying back on the bed.
Long frowned a little. It didn't look like he had to think too long, but it looked like he was having difficulty figuring out how to express his opinion. "Sheng treats me well," he finally explained. "and I can remain close to my sister."
"What's you sister's name?" Rosen asked.
