It's a Chinese unicorn. Typically named the Qilin but I like the word kirin the best.
If you've ever seen Princess Mononoke, the Spirit Guardian is pretty much a form of kirin.

It was actually my very first anime show I've ever watched when it was first released. It took me years to figure out what it was called. I'm still waiting to find a copy and purchase the DVD.

I got hand-me-down ponies as a kid, but I never watched the show. I just liked horses in general and wanted to have a real horse to the point where I even got books explaining how to care for them. x'D
