"Where?" Nic asked.
-- "... Okay," Fin decided. |
Laurel was silent for a long moment. Then she barely whispered, "Can we go... to the Okorie?" It looked like she was finally starting to open up that part of her mind that had been blocked off to Nic since Chicago.
-- So Frei led him off, looking for Raven. |
"... Why?" Nic asked, keeping his voice calm.
-- Raven was working in the garden. |
Laurel was silent again for a long time before she let out a sigh. "They promised we'd be safe there," she explained quietly, a slight eagerness slipping into her voice. She wasn't taking about just Nic's safety, something here was making her fearful.
-- So Frei approached him, still hand in hand with Fin. "Movie!" she demanded when they were close enough. |
"And?" Nic asked.
-- Raven chuckled a little as he saw them. "Well," he said as he finished up what he was doing. "What kind of movie do you want to watch. Fin was a little embarrassed that Frei had gone to Raven to watch a movie; that wasn't what he had in mind when she first mentioned it. |
"We should go," Laurel whispered.
-- "Alice in Wonderland," Frei stated before looking at Fin. |
"We need a better reason than that," Nic replied simply.
-- Raven nodded a little. "Alright," he said as he brushed himself off. Fin blinked like he hadn't heard of that movie. |
Pain flashed across Laurel's face but if she had a better reason, she wasn't telling him.
-- Frei shrugged at Fin and followed after Raven. |
So Nic remained silent as he kept eating.
-- So Raven took them to the movie room and set up Alice in Wonderland. |
Laurel didn't speak again, nor did she eat. There was a defeated air around her.
-- Once the movie was set up, Frei let go of Fin's hand as snuggled into Raven's lap. Apparently she was still a 'daddy's' girl. |
When Nic finished eating he got up and went to leave and return to his daily routine.
-- Before Alice fell down the rabbit hole, Fin knew he didn't care for the movie so much. And he pouted silently in his own little way. This wasn't what he had in mind at all. Raven rolled his eyes a little, cuddling Frei for awhile. He pondered sneaking out after the caterpillar was introduced. |
Laurel didn't move to stop him.
-- Frei yawned a little as the red queen painted flowers and rolled off of Raven and onto Fin. |
Fin blushed as Frei rolled over. Raven didn't say anything, pretending to watch the movie as he watched Fin out of the corner of his eye. Fin didn't move for a long time.
|
Frei shifted so she could see the screen, still on Fin. She seemed to completely trust him now.
|
Fin was still working on trusting himself a bit. Especially with Raven there. So he kept to himself.
|
Luckily for Fin, Wolfe didn't pick this time to visit Raven. Also as luck would have it, Frei fell asleep on him about halfway through the movie so it could be turned off if Fin and Raven desired.
|
Fin continued to not say anything and remain frozen, so Raven kept the movie going so at least he could say he supervised them if need be and he wouldn't get bored watching Fin be awkward.
|
Then suddenly Frei was awake again. She rolled right back onto Raven and within a few seconds, Wolfe walked inside. "I thought I'd fine you here, Ra-" he'd spotted Fin.
|
"Hey," Raven told Wolfe as if nothing was the matter. Fin was a little surprised, but it looked like it was just because Wolfe walked in the room. Fin paused before nodding a little to Wolfe.
|
Wolfe continued to stare at Fin, and then at the proximity he was to Frei. He proceeded to walk over and pick Fin up, depositing him at the end of the row before sitting down beside Raven himself.
|
Fin's eyes widened a little, but he didn't move as Wolfe picked him up and put him at the end of the row. He did looked a little depressed though.
It was hard for Raven to let Wolfe do that. "It was alright," Raven whispered to Wolfe after awhile. "I was supervising them." |
Wolfe was seemingly focused on the movie.
|
Raven didn't say anything else, but after a few more minutes he did try to at least hold Wolfe's hand.
|
Wolfe let him, glancing at Frei for a moment. Frei was staring at Wolfe, not looking very happy. Wolfe stared right back.
|
Raven let them "talk" it out, glancing over at Fin who was starting to doze off.
|
Eventually Frei stood and walked right over to Fin, grabbing his hand and dragging him up. Wolfe's icy glare settled on Fin as he watched. Frei's actions clearly weren't helping Wolfe's opinion of Fin.
|
Fin swallowed a little, keenly aware of Wolfe's glare. But he let Frei drag him up.
Raven rubbed Wolfe's hand a little, trying to calm him down a bit. |
Frei led him out of the room before letting go of his hand.
Wolfe was clearly stiff, very irritated. |
Fin was still tense.
Raven kept rubbing Wolfe's hand. |
Once they were out of the room, Frei started to walk off on her own. She seemed to have lost interest in Fin again.
-- Wolfe finally huffed quietly and relented but retained his frown. |
Fin paused, not sure what to do. So after awhile he started to follow after Frei.
-- Raven sighed a little, letting the silence remain awhile longer before asking, "Do you want to watch something else?" |
Frei went right a spare bedroom, "Sleep here," she stated.
-- Wolfe shrugged a little. |
Fin browsed the room a little, looking it over.
-- "... Or we could sit here in the dark," Raven noted. |
Frei let him explore it on his own, walking back out the door.
-- Wolfe blinked, wondering if he'd heard that right. |
By the time Fin was done, he noticed Frei was gone. He walked outside, but had difficulty figuring out where he was. So for now he went back in and sat on the bed.
-- Raven waited, genuinely not knowing how Wolfe would react. |
Unfortunately, Frei didn't return to guide Fin back.
-- Wolfe blinked at Raven as the video ended, credits rolling. "Sit here?" he clarified. |
So Fin did a lot of sitting and exploring the room before slowly trying to find his way back to the Juttle.
-- "... More or less," Raven replied, wondering if Wolfe was taking him literally. |
Wolfe paused for a moment longer, "You don't mean actually sitting," he clarified.
-- For the first time in weeks, it seemed like Laurel wasn't going to sleep in Nic's room. But a little after twelve, she finally arrived, opening the door quietly and slipping inside. |
Raven shook his head.
-- Nic was up and at his computer, not noticing Laurel come in. |
Suddenly and surprisingly, Wolfe smirked, "Sure," he stated.
-- Laurel didn't say anything, she just walked over and slipped right into his lap. |
