Fin didn't say anything, face still red.
Frei paused, "If I thought the kitten would scratch, I wouldn't have taken it from the shop," she stated before drinking the rest of the milk and trying to open up the coconut for the coconut.
Fin didn't say anything for a long time. After Frei tried opening the coconut for awhile, he reached out his hand and waited for her to give it to him.
Frei eventually handed it over, looking right into Fin's eyes as she did. There was a trust there... that she couldn't express.
Fin blinked, surprised to find that there, but a little happy as well. He nodded a little, face still red as he broke the coconut in half for Frei and handed it back to her.
Frei started gnawing on the inside of hers, "The cat met you," she stated, glancing at Fin.
Fin paused before nodding and drinking some more coconut milk.
Frei looked at him, "You like... the cat?" she inquired.
Fin paused before shrugging a little.
Frei turned her head a little, "... want..." she paused, trying to form the words and struggled, "...go home?"
Fin shook his head a little. "... Do you?" he asked.
Frei shook her head, struggling further, "... home..." she repeated quietly.
"... You okay?" Fin asked quietly, confused.
Frei clamped her hands over her temples as a wave of dizziness hit her.
Fin dropped his coconut and quickly moved to catch Frei.
Frei turned, burying her face in Fin's chest as she started to shake.
"Frei?!" he asked as he held her.
Frei let out a long, shuttering breath as her body gave one last large shiver down her spine and then she fell silent. Her arms slowly moved from her head to wrap themselves around Fin's neck.
"Frei?! What's wrong?" he asked again, voice scared.
Frei was focused on taking slowly, deep breaths but after a long moment, she managed to whisper, "Brain... freeze." But it didn't seem like she was talking about the kind you get with too much ice cream.
"Will you be alright?" he asked, still completely focused on how she was doing.
Frei continued to breath methodically, it looked like she was slipping into some kind of meditation though her arms remained locked around Fin's neck.
Fin glanced around, but he wasn't sure what to do. So he tried to remain still, not distracting Frei any further. But after a few moments of silence it started to become more difficult for him as his brain started to register how close she was to him.
Frei seemed to be slowly falling asleep.
After awhile, Fin slowly tried to get Frei's arms off of his neck.
Unfortunately, Frei's grip was like iron. But after a little while, she started to whimper a little, like a child.
"Are you okay?" Fin asked, voice worried again.
Frei didn't reply right away, but finally she whispered, "... yes," and for the first time, there was some real emotion deep in her words. She sounded very embarrassed.
Fin was surprised, but tried not to do anything to make her even more embarrassed. So he sucked it up and let Frei come back in her own time.
Finally Frei pulled away, there was a tightness set on her face as if she was still dealing with some pain but she scooted away from Fin a little. She didn't look at him, staring at the sand between her feet.
Fin didn't say anything, not looking directly at Frei either.
Frei was silent for a good while before looking out at the water. Then she suddenly stood and headed towards the Hovercraft.
So Fin picked up his backpack and followed Frei. But before they got the to Hovercraft, he tried taking the starfish off to return her to her home.
Frei didn't notice Fin pull off the starfish. But by the time Fin returned to the hovercraft after returning it to the water, Frei was reemerging with snorkeling masks and fins. She finally met Fin's eyes, her gaze was mostly blank but seemed questioning. Did he want to go with her?
Fin blinked. He had thought they were going home. It took him a moment, but then he nodded a little before going to put his backpack in the hovercraft.
When Fin came back out, Frei had put her fins and mask on outside the hovercraft and was trying to waddle her way to the water. Apparently she hadn't done this before and didn't know the order of things.
Fin didn't bother telling Frei how to do it, letting her figure it out on her own or figure it out from watching him as he got in the water before putting everything on.
Frei eventually made it over, looking at Fin, "Fin... swims with fins?" she inquired, not seeming to notice the wordplay.
"Sometimes," Fin replied.
Frei nodded before diving into the water and exploring around.
