It was... lol. But then I bought Elegant Ornaments so I could change it. What do you think? Back to yellow, or stay pink?

Tiva 08-06-2014 07:38 PM

I just graduated with my bachelors of Anthropology this May looking at going back for my Masters in a few years. Faux does anthropology too peoples…. how does no one know this?

Lawtan 08-06-2014 08:11 PM

>.>

Faux never mentioned it. Never "heard" you mention it. ;_;

Interesting thing about the internet - some of the people you chat the most with...you know little about.

*Clings to Tiva*

That was a great thing you pulled off, Coda. :) *Hugs*

Tiva 08-06-2014 09:38 PM

I say it… kind of…. when I am talking to Faux about stuff…. me and her established it about a year back and chat of and on about it. Alpha has an Anthro minor also, but yeah I enjoy people watching and studying how people act and act in situations based on the culture they were raised in and exposed to.

Ginger, I like the pink.

The pink works well.

Lawtan 08-07-2014 12:11 PM

I admit a bit more into the Archaeological side of things, but I am interested in knowing more about Anthropology. :)

*Rolls into conversation*

Distraction!

jaguarlyra 08-07-2014 08:06 PM

That sounds rather rude of the professor.

Tiva 08-07-2014 09:25 PM

It sounded like motivation to understand the difference and keep us creditable when writing research papers. It worked, one of my classmates got in to a great graduate program and sited them as the professor that pushed them.

Ginger 08-07-2014 09:28 PM

Thanks! I think the pink works well, too. More color variety.

Sabrehagen 08-08-2014 11:06 PM

-cuddle-clings to anyone and everyone, just glad to have his internet back-

I don't mind taking my old laptop to the library, just getting in the car that my much shorter wife has difficulty bending down to get into, doesn't help my back and therefore I didn't go.

I too lazy to walk, yes, or it might be that my feet are messed up badly. Probably both.

jaguarlyra 08-09-2014 04:19 AM

Hi Sabrehagen, congrats on getting your internet back!

Lawtan 08-09-2014 12:42 PM

Sabrehagen! *tosses a black orb of infinite smexiness at*

Tohopekaliga 08-09-2014 12:49 PM

Anthropologists? I people watch, and I make video games. Does that count? :P

Tiva 08-09-2014 01:18 PM

You understand why people like what they do because of the culture they were raised in giving them pre made rights and wrongs? Then yep you have some cultural anthropology in ya.

Lucid: 08-09-2014 05:32 PM

I definitely think cultural anthropology is awesome. I just didn't realize it had a major all to itself until I had a roommate studying it. I think certain branches of advertising (particularly research) can be pretty close though, which is part of why I studied advertising to begin with.

jaguarlyra 08-09-2014 07:22 PM

I would be interested in seeing how advertizing research could be applied to getting public health information to different groups in a method that they would want to learn about.

Cool...

Umm...so if you have sort of come to the conclusion that there are very few "good" or "bad" people...more just that people are fallible (and rather apathetic), and groups of exponentially so, through historical documents, stories, modern stuff, and personal experience...would that be philosophical or anthropological?

Horror Babe 08-09-2014 09:43 PM

Since i dont think anyone is participating in the posting event things anymore, im going to do page prizes.
Random pages.

Everyone on page 56 will get a item of sorts

Coda 08-09-2014 10:40 PM

Anthropology is a type of philosophy, so it's really "both."

That sounds like it would be a really interesting project. I guess it would first involve knowing what the groups are that need information - what are their ages, races, locations, family situations, incomes, et cetera. From there, you can make some general assumptions about their behavior. For example, a group aged 40-65 white males would receive information much differently than a group of 18-24 black females. There's a lot of general information already out there about demographic groups, and from that information you can build surveys and conduct focus groups and interviews for the particular subject, public health, that you are looking for. When somebody says "I read the newspaper every morning while I ride the subway" or "I can't go 2 hours without checking Twitter" those are valuable insights as to where a person is really paying attention.

Tiva 08-10-2014 11:04 AM

Yeah both, but the thing is that you are using religion as a basis which is never allowed in anthropology. You never go in and make religion the driving force behind an action or lack of, look at the culture (Which may or may not include religion in an aspect) look at their myths or texts and see how they viewed other people and draw reasoning as to why they make the decisions they do. There is never a basis of good or bad or judgement of how a person lives their life. So technically what you are doing is general philosophy while anthropology would take their philosophy and dissect it to see why these things drive a person never creating a judgement on their actions.

Biggest thing is Anthropology is never to judge or go in biased because it creates a false reasoning that what they are doing is 'wrong' and you can not understand the values of the culture if you can not immerse yourself in it.

Lawtan 08-10-2014 01:00 PM

O.o
I am confused at where I was using religion in there. I didn't mention it at all...
?_?

Tiva 08-10-2014 01:17 PM

'Groups of people' is code for a religious group or cultural group in many things that I deal with I took it as such, sorry for the assumption.

Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present their culture and all aspects for what they do while striving to understand what they do or did.

Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language.

Those are taken from Wikipedia and my old Anthro textbook.
All people in one aspect is Philosophy, a group of people in all aspects is Anthropology. Best way to explain it.

Lawtan 08-10-2014 02:53 PM

Ahh...by "groups of people" - I was referring to groups psychology studies.

Your explanation on the difference between Anthropology and Philosophy make sense. Thank you. :)

My brain flipped around the conversation earlier, it was too hard to grasp what was being said; note for moi, wake up and then try to understand. x3

Tiva 08-11-2014 08:34 PM

Robin Williams is dead…. god that was like my childhood. *goes on a marathon*

Lucid: 08-11-2014 10:10 PM

When I first heard I thought the person was lying. I had to look it up myself to believe it. I still don't think I've fully processed it yet...

Lawtan 08-11-2014 10:13 PM

My favorite comedian...and genie...and literary teacher...and military radio announcer...and guy who kept Superman's spirits up when he lost the ability to walk...

:s-cry::s-cry::s-cry:

...other than that, I don't have much to say/post.

Gozed 08-11-2014 10:13 PM

I think everyone had that response Lucid. Just instant disbelief.

Lucid: 08-11-2014 10:17 PM

**Thumbtacks Gozed down to the thread** Yeah...usually when actors die they're not ones I've heard of before. Like old people actors. I haven't felt this sort of shock since when Heath Ledger died...

Tiva 08-11-2014 10:54 PM

Was watching Jeopardy and Mum was out of the room when ABC cast the emergency broadcast. I read the head line and it didn't sink in until she asked what was on and I told her Robin Williams died. She cried. I just sat there dumbfounded for a few seconds until the news story was over.

Gozed 08-11-2014 11:21 PM

Ack, not the thumbtacks!
And yeah, it just takes awhile for it to sink in. I think this is just the start of stars from my childhood to die though. We've already lost Bob Hoskins and Harold Ramis. 2 actors from some as my favorite movies as a kid and now the Genie... :/

jaguarlyra 08-12-2014 02:25 PM

I only knew him as Genie.

#000000 08-14-2014 11:35 PM

Makes me really super sad that Robin is dead.. first movie of his I ever had the pleasure of watching was Good Morning Vietnam. Still probably one of my favorite movies..

Sabrehagen 08-15-2014 07:27 AM

I like to think on the same thought as the webcomic LICD, that Robin evolved into his final form, that of pure energy.

#000000 08-16-2014 12:00 AM

I approve of this.
