Nic seemed a little confused. "... You want to take a break for awhile?" he asked, trying to figure out what she was talking about.
|
"Well if you're too tired..." Laurel said quietly, pushing her food around her plate.
|
Nic still seemed a little lost. "I'm fine with the way things are," he finally explained after another minute or two.
|
Laurel looked up at Nic for a moment before blushing and looking back at the food, "... Okay."
|
"... Do you want things to change?" he asked after another minute.
|
Laurel shook her head, still blushing.
|
"... Alright," Nic replied, wondering what Laurel's point had been.
|
Laurel remained blushing.
-- Over the next few days, Frei was unconscious for the first day and then very weak for the remaining two, acting like she was hungover. She didn't get around to seeing Fin. Wolfe checked on Long and Frei, also disappearing into the control room with Snow. Long was slowly healing up with the help of the medication. Laurel kept dancing and training with Snow. She also tried to eat as many meals as possible with Nic, just enjoying his company. James continued to hover around Yue, so much so, he really didn't even meet many other people. He tried to get her out a bit, to watch another sunset or jet ski. |
Raven checked up on Frei every now and then, but took the extra time to keep up with what was going back on at the farm.
Nic kept getting back in shape and did pretty much whatever Laurel wanted with the exception of holding a conversation about Fin. Fin continued to chill in the Juttle. He got a little depressed that Frei wasn't visiting him anymore. Yue didn't mind James hanging around. By the last day though she started pushing for some more time to socialize with other people. |
Wolfe called NIc and Yue into another meeting. James heeded Yue's push and disappeared for awhile.
Finally Frei went to see Fin, walking inside like nothing had happened. |
Nic and Yue went to talk with Wolfe.
Fin jumped up when he saw Frei, very happy she had come. "How have you been?" he asked. |
Wolfe sat down, "I'm going cut back on Long's medications soon so we need to come to a decision."
Frei seemed to think about that for a moment, "... Don't know," she decided as she took a seat. |
Both of them were silent.
"... You don't know?" Fin asked. |
Wolfe raised an eyebrow.
Frei shrugged. |
"... Well, Sheng hasn't tried to find him yet," Yue noted quietly.
Fin blinked at her. "... Like you don't remember?" |
Wolfe nodded a little before looking at Yue, "How certain are you that it was an inside job?"
Frei thought about that some more before nodding slightly and looking around. |
Yue thought it through a little. "... I don't know how it couldn't have been," she replied quietly.
"... Oh..." Fin said, not sure what else to say. |
Wolfe looked at Nic.
-- Frei looked at his book shelf, seeing what he was reading. |
Nic shrugged.
-- He had been reading a few science fiction books, a lot of history, and some about motorcycles. |
Wolfe nodded slightly, "I guess that settles it then," he stated as he started to stand.
-- Frei looked back at Fin, "Let's... have fun," she stated in a totally bored voice. |
Yue stood with him, "He can stay?" she asked.
-- "Okay," Fin said with a small smile. "What do you want to do?" |
Wolfe nodded, started to walk out, then paused. "You want to be there when he wakes?" he asked Yue.
-- Frei pointed to the motorcycles. |
Yue paused before nodding. Nic stood and started to walk out, not looking interested.
-- Fin blinked. |
Wolfe didn't look at Nic as he nodded to Yue and expected her to follow him out.
-- Frei stood, grabbing Fin's hand before starting to drag him from the Juttle. |
So Yue followed Wolfe.
-- Fin swallowed a little, but he let Frei drag him along. |
Wolfe went straight to the room they were keeping Long, he was still dressed in James' clothing. Wolfe had already decreased the medications and Long would start drifting back to consciousness soon. One thing he would notice when he woke was a metal anklet clamped around his left ankle tightly but not painfully so.
Wolfe stood back, motioning for Yue to take the chair as he leaned against the far wall. -- Frei dragged Fin to a different Juttle before strapping herself into the pilot's set. |
So Yue went to sit next to Long. After waiting a few minutes she grabbed his hand gently.
When Long woke, he didn't move or open his eyes just like before. Yue didn't seem to notice he was awake. -- "... You can fly?" he asked Frei, voice a little nervous. |
Wolfe waited silently.
-- In response, Frei took off perfectly and smoothly, guiding the Juttle away from the landing platform. |
After a few more minutes, Yue seemed to get that he was awake. "... Oh, stop that Long," she spat a little at him. Surprisingly, Long still didn't react. Yue sighed before leaning down and whispering something in Long's ear. That made him open his eyes and he blinked at Yue. "... It's alright," she told him gently.
-- Fin clutched the chair a little, glancing over at Frei for a moment and slowly letting go and trying to relax. |
Wolfe continued to hang back, watching Long and Yue closely.
-- So Frei flew them away. Then suddenly she dropped into a corkscrew maneuver, probably showing off. |
Yue didn't say anything for awhile as Long slowly got used to his surroundings. He looked at Wolfe for a moment before turning back to Yue.
"... Who did this to you?" she asked Long quietly. Long was silent for a very long time, debating. Then finally he whispered, "I don't remember." -- Fin started clinging to the chair again, but he didn't cry out as he stared wide-eyed out the window. |
Wolfe continued to stay in the background and observe.
-- Frei smirked as she continued on her way. It looked like she was taking them out over open ocean. |
Yue took a little time to talk to Long about how Wolfe had brought him and took care of him. And she talked to him a little about her experiences here and tried to convince him this was a safe place.
-- Fin showed a little fear every now and then, but he seemed to trust Frei. |
Finally Wolfe stood up straight and walked over, standing next to Yue and staring a little sharply into Long eyes. He still did not say a word.
-- Frei eventually landed on a floating city. She then grabbed Fin hand again and starting dragging him away. |
Long looked back at Wolfe, meeting his stare. He still seemed very retreated into himself.
-- Fin took a deep breath before letting Frei drag him around again. |
Wolfe bent down a little, getting closer to Long's face, "I did not heal you out of charity," he stated simply, "I repay my debts. But if you try to leave without my permission, I will consider my debt paid and act accordingly. The same goes for any acts of hostility against my family, which includes everyone on this resort. If you are peaceful, I will remain passive," he explained calmly, gaze looking deeply into Long's.
|
Long kept searching Wolfe's eyes for something. It wasn't clear if he found it or not. He seemed a little lost. But he nodded once.
|
Wolfe paused for a long moment, "And stay away from Raven," he growled before abruptly turning to leave.
|
Long blinked blankly, watching Wolfe leave for a moment before looking back at Yue.
|
Frei dragged Fin into a racing arena for motorcycles with hovercraft equipment.
