Raven was right beside Wolfe the entire time, partly so he could pull him back easily if it became necessary.
-- Laurel couldn't hear anything from outside the Juttle. And Nic stayed in there for a few minutes at least, which was probably a good thing. |
Wolfe surveyed the scene.
-- After about seven minutes of silence, Laurel got antsy and peeked inside. |
The fire was still going, but it looked like they had contained it. It was a very large fire, which Raven seemed to have expected based on where it had started.
-- The two of them were sitting silently at the table. Fin seemed a little intimidated, but he was holding his ground alright. |
Wolfe glanced at Raven, "What's burning?" he asked quietly.
-- So Laurel closed the door back up and continued to wait outside. |
"... The barn where we keep the hay and the rest of the animal feed," Raven replied quietly.
-- After about fifteen minutes, Nic walked outside. |
Wolfe nodded and pressed his ear piece, "You get that Snow? ... Good, copy that." He looked at Raven, "Let's spread out, take this," he handed Raven an ear piece.
-- Laurel was pacing, she glanced at Nic as he came out. |
Raven swallowed a little before taking the ear piece.
-- Nic took a sip from his coffee cup, but he didn't say anything. |
Wolfe nodded before walking off.
-- Laurel watched him for a moment before nodding, "Thank you," she said quietly. |
It took a lot of restraint, but Raven stayed in hiding for now as he went to get a better look.
-- Nic nodded a little before heading off to finish their breakfast, expecting Laurel to follow. |
Wolfe checked the perimeter, still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
-- Laurel glanced back at the shuttle before following behind him. |
No signs of sabotage were immediately obvious.
Wolfe took out some binoculars and checked it out in further detail.
For now, nothing more about the origin of the fire could be determined. Wolfe would have to wait until the fire was put out.
Wolfe took a closer look to see if anyone was injured in the fire.
A few people had been hurt, including Raven's mother. Her burns didn't seem too serious though and didn't slow her down as she worked withe everyone else to put out the fire.
Wolfe paused before calling Snow, "How soon?"
"Any second now," Snow's voice responded in his ear. True to her word about later thirty seconds a plane flew over head, dumping water mixed with a harmless foam mixture directly on the barn before continuing on. Then large name visible on the side of the plane was one of the larger sponsors Wolfe had called in to help the farm before. The fire was almost completely doused even before the plane flew out of sight. |
Raven's mom took a moment to look at the plane before yelling at everyone to finish putting the fire out. With everyone working together, the managed to finish putting the fire out in a reasonable amount of time.
Wolfe continued to look for signs of the start.
It took a lot of searching, but, in the end, it appeared the fire had started because of some faulty wiring. It had been an accident.
Wolfe frowned a bit, "Send an elecrition over here," he ordered Snow before going to look for Raven.
Raven had wandered off a good ways so no one else would find him. This whole ordeal seemed to have been extremely stressful on him.
Wolfe approached and observed Raven for a long moment before putting a hand on his shoulder, "Do you want to check on your mother?" he asked.
Raven paused, seriously considering it. But in the end he shook his head.
Wolfe nodded, "No one was seriously injured, let's go," he stated before turning back to the hovercraft.
Raven took a deep breath before pushing himself up and starting with Wolfe back toward the shuttle.
From the shuttle it was a quick trip back to the Jet where Frei was waiting. Frei looked at them as they entered, "We're leaving," Wolfe told her.
Raven walked on board silently, not looking back.
There was an incoming call. Wolfe answered it and Snow's voice rang through the Jet.
"Wolfe?" "Mmn." "They're sending the offer now." "They remembering everything?" "Yep, a large shipment of livestock feed and hay at rock bottom price to 'sustain a beneficial working relationship with their client.'" "Good," Wolfe replied, "We'll be back shortly," and hung up. |
Raven paused to listen to the conversation, but didn't say anything. When it was over he quietly went to his seat.
Wolfe said something to Frei before walking over to Raven and taking a seat beside him.
Raven stayed quiet. But at least he had stopped fidgeting.
After a while Wolfe folded his hands, staring at them. "Do you regret it?" he asked quietly.
"Regret what?" Raven asked quietly, not looking at him.
"Not going back to the farm when you had the chance?" he said very quietly.
Raven paused but then shook his head.
"But you would have been there... and could have helped instead of watching from the sidelines," Wolfe pressed.
Raven nodded a little. "... But then I wouldn't be on this Juttle now," he replied quietly.
Wolfe paused, he didn't seem to find a reply as he remained silent.
Raven didn't say anything else either.
It was about twenty minute later when the landed. Much too soon. Wolfe blinked, looked out the window and cussed quietly. It wasn't Costa Rica. "Frei..." he said with a voice clearly calmer than he was feeling, "What are you doing?"
"Ice Cream," Frei stated blankly. |
