Yue didn't say anything as she let James lead her out.
James led her out to a back patio. It was empty expect for a small table, fire pit and covered treys. The view of the setting sun was breathtaking. "We always seem to see sunsets together," he smiled as he pulled her chair out for her.
Yue smiled, not seeming to mind as she took a seat.
James pushed her chair in and lit the small but warm fire pit. Then he took the lids off of the first two dishes, "Hongshaorou and Longjing xiaren," he grinned, "aaaand Fo tiao qiang!" he pulled the last lid off, "All flown in from China," he boasted. Ah, so there was the real James in this simple set up.
Yue couldn't help but laugh a bit. "China or that restaurant on that smaller island we passed by a few days ago by the dock?"
James smirked, "It's authentic," he reassured her.
"It doesn't have to come from China to be authentic Chinese cuisine," Yue noted, but she still seemed rather flattered.
James dished up a plate for himself, expecting Yue to do the same.
Yue quickly followed suit and helped herself.
James eat in silence for a little while, enjoying the food and the view.
Even talkative Yue seemed to be content with the quiet for now. She really seemed to be enjoying the food too.
After awhile James, who was spending just as much time watching Yue as the sunset, asked, "You getting cold?"
Yue shook her head. The fire pit was keeping her warm well.
James smiled as he pulled out some Champaign, "Shall I pour you a glass?"
"... Just a little," she decided.
James poured her half a glass, pouring a half a glass for himself before handing hers over, "A toast?" he asked.
Yue raised her eyebrow. "A toast?" she asked as she took the glass.
"To many more sunsets," he stated before taking a sip.
Yue paused and smirked a little. "To many more sunsets," she agreed before taking a sip.
James smirked, "We actually agree..." he stated, amused.
"I guess there's a first time for everything," Yue replied simply.
James chuckled a little before scooting his chair closer to Yue's.
-- Soon Pepper was bored and went looking for Tusk. |
Yue turned back to the sunset for awhile.
-- It seemed like no one actually knew where Tusk was, but once Pepper got a lead he wasn't hard to find. He had been causing a small racket at one of the small spas nearby and was just leaving as Pepper found him refreshed and smelling like expensive spices. |
Laurel finally left Fin's Juttle and went to grab dinner.
-- Pepper raised an eyebrow, "Five minutes too late," she mused. |
"Ten," Tusk corrected. "Five minutes ago I was stuck with this receptionist who just couldn't shut up."
Pepper nodded a little, "Where do you plan on going smelling like an spice cabinet?" she asked, somewhat amused.
Tusk lifted an arm and sniffed himself. "I said lay off the smelly stuff," he explained. "But I think that guy wished I was gay."
Pepper snorted, "I'll have to start calling you Turmeric now instead of Tusk," she mused.
"Huh?" Tusk asked, looking confused.
Pepper chuckled a little, "The spice," she explained, "Seems like you might be all brawn and no brain."
"I have a brain," Tusk argued. "But why should I fill it with spices when I can use the space for much more useful things."
"Turmeric's useful," Pepper replied with a bit of a dark smile.
"For what?" Tusk inquired.
And so Pepper rattled off, as if off the top of her head, "Turmeric is a stimulant, has healing and antiseptic properties, and a remedy for sunburn. The use of turmeric in daily diet can improve body's immunity. It is a natural liver detoxifier, a natural painkiller and cox-2 inhibitor."
"... Huh..." Tusk muttered. It looked like he had expected something else.
Pepper continued in the same tone though her eyes were amused, "And if thrown, may cause temporary blindness."
Tusk blinked, getting more bored and starting to disbelieve her a bit.
"That was a joke," Pepper stated with an eyeroll, "Though I'm sure if you threw spice in someone's eye it would hurt."
Tusk nodded a little before starting to walk off.
Pepper didn't hesitate to follow right along beside him.
-- As night fell, there was a knock on Nic's door. |
