Fin took a step back slowly, not sure if he liked Amela.
Amela paced back on forth on the table, looking up at Fin with big, too adorable eyes. Laurel chuckled a little.
Fin didn't seem to be falling for it, keeping a wary eye on her.
Amela finally laid down, putting her tiny head on her hands. Laurel laughed lightly, "You're a lot like your brother," she decided as she watched him and Amela.
Fin finally glanced away from Amela to Laurel. "... Huh?" he asked.
"Nic's not so sure about my animals either," she explained as she sat down with a smile, "He hates the smell too."
Fin didn't say anything, still watching Amela out of the corner of his eye.
Laurel watched Fin for a moment, "Is there anything you want to know... about Nic?" she asked quietly.
Fin blinked at Laurel, surprised at the question. "... Uh..." he sighed as he sat down, but not too close to Amela. After awhile he asked, "How old is he?"
"He's 23," Laurel replied, "How old are you?"
"... Fourteen," Fin replied. Ten years was a long time.
Laurel nodded a little, waiting for the next question.
After awhile he asked, not looking at Laurel, "... Does he know where dad is?"
Laurel was quiet for awhile, "... He's dead; been dead for many years," she said softly, "I'm sorry, Fin."
Fin swallowed a little. He didn't want to hear that. He didn't say anything for a long time as he looked at the ground.
"I don't know what happened," Laurel admitted after a moment, "That's something only Nic can tell you. I'm so sorry."
Fin still said nothing for a long time. Then he asked quietly, "Is... there any other family?"
Laurel was quiet for a moment as she thought it through, "Not that he has mentioned to me," she decided after a moment.
Fin took some time to let that sink in quietly.
"But I've only known him for about six months," she said hurriedly, "And there's a lot about his life and past that he hasn't shared with me yet."
After another few moments, Fin slowly got up and started walking away quietly.
Laurel let him, staring at the table.
Fin was gone for a good long time.
After some debating, Laurel decided to stay, petting a sleeping Amela gently.
A few hours later, Fin came out to get something to eat. He looked surprised to see that Laurel was still there.
By the time Fin came in, Laurel had drifted into a light dose.
Fin walked quietly around Laurel, trying not to wake her up.
After a little while, Laurel's head fell forwards until it smacked into the table. Laurel woke with a start and a slight curse, Amela leaping from her lap.
Fin jumped a little too, almost dropping his food.
Laurel was holding her forehead with both hands as she blinked at Fin, "Oh... You're back," she said quietly.
Fin nodded a little. "You... alright?" he asked.
Laurel nodded, blushing slightly, "Just... clumsy," she murmured.
Fin nodded a little before continuing to walk out with his food.
"I'm sorry Wolfe's trapping you in here," Laurel said quietly as he left.
Fin didn't reply as he kept walking.
So Laurel stayed seated.
-- James held out his hand to Yue, "You hungry, Princess?" |
Yue smiled a little too sweetly back as she took his hand. "... Don't make me puke," she told him too nicely.
"But we haven't eaten yet," James noted sweetly back, "How could you puke?"
"Don't question it," Yue suggested.
James chuckled as he started to lead Yue out of the theater.
