Here, at least, the unsubsidized plan paid for out of my own pocket through the ACA insurance exchange is actually a BETTER deal than the company plan for me. *AFTER* my company pays its share of the group insurance premiums, I would still be paying something like $850/mo for health insurance. The ACA exchange plan I got instead is only $615, and my company is being awesome and agreeing to put the same amount of money into that plan as they would have into the group plan, so this is a net positive for me.
(Before you start freaking out over the numbers: (1) I live in California, insurance is expensive here. (2) I have a family to care for.) Now, my PREVIOUS company... that fired me because the CEO is incompetent and can't tell the difference between "if you do this, the company will suffer" and "I don't want to do that"... the insurance would have cost approximately the same $850/mo, but they didn't offer ANY wiggle room, take it or leave it, and they didn't pay me enough to be able to afford the ACA premiums out-of-pocket. If you want to talk about jobs being crappy... ugh, I've got stories. |
I'm glad you have a better job Coda. :D
Happy birthday Taiki!! Use the heck out of that plan! xD Luxury doctor visits, yay? My dad called me today and told me that I better schedule visits with my dermatologist and dentist while I'm still on the family plan. I guess I should but I don't like taking time out of my schedule to go to the doctor. D: |
