Fin stayed quietly in his corner the rest of the trip. After awhile he started clutching at something under his shirt.
-- Nic grabbed the water for her quietly in case she was thirsty again. |
Kale glanced at the boy and then at Blaze, "You get kids better than me," he stated quietly, "Why don't you babysit him?"
-- Laurel seemed a little out of it as she slowly grinned up at Nic, "Hey thar Mr. Handsome," she teased hoarsely, head flopping to one side as if she was too tired to keep it up. |
"I'm driving the boat," Blaze replied calmly, still emotionally removed.
-- Nic nodded a little before lifting her head up for her and slowly giving her some water. |
"I'll drive," Kale responded easily.
-- Laurel drank it thirstily, "You..." she murmured once she was done, "got more freckles!" |
"I'm driving," Blaze repeated. She didn't want to babysit the kid.
-- Nic's typical frown deepened a little. He put the water aside before carefully standing with Laurel and taking her over the boat, leaving everything else behind. |
Kale sighed, "But you're a girl," he protested, "and you're more of a people person than I am."
-- Wolfe watched Nic and Laurel board. Laurel still had a silly grin on her face as she continued to focus on Nic. "Ready to go?" he asked Nic. |
"I'm driving," Blaze repeated one more time before adding, "... You're doing fine."
-- "She needs a doctor," Nic replied simply, but seriously as he carefully put her down. |
Kale didn't seem so certain but after a moment he gave in and returned to the kid. "How old are you anyway?" he asked, "10?" Kale really didn't know kids.
-- So Wolfe walked over but glanced at Nic before approaching Laurel closer. He seemed to be waiting for permission. Apparently, he had enough medical knowledge. |
The boy looked awfully insulted. It took him awhile, but eventually he answered, "Fourteen." His voice cracked a little, much to his chagrin. His body hadn't quite finished growing yet.
-- Nic stepped back, letting Wolfe get closer. Raven looked over Wolfe's shoulder worriedly. He didn't have too much medical knowledge, but he did know about heat stroke and dehydration from the farm. |
Kale blinked but then shrugged, "Around Frei's age then," he mused.
-- Wolfe looked Laurel over for a moment before sorting through a compartment on the boat. He pulled out an instafreeze pack and snapped it to start the cold before tossing it to Nic. He broke two other ones before placing them around Laurel's body to help cool her down. Then he pulled some cool water from a cooler he'd brought along and handed it to Nic, expecting him to help Laurel drink it. Then he returned to the steering wheel and pushed a few buttons. The top of the boat began to close off, shielding them from the sun. Soon, cold hair was blowing from a few vents, cooling down the temperature inside the boat. |
Fin said nothing, hoping that wasn't a bad thing.
-- Nic did as Wolfe expected, doing his best to cool Laurel off. After awhile Raven shivered a little and went to put his shoes and shirt back on. |
Kale had seemed to run out of things to say.
-- Laurel didn't really want to drink more water so getting her to drink it was a chore. Wolfe tossed Raven a blanket, apparently it was going to get colder. |
So Fin didn't say anything else either, still clutching at his shirt.
-- Raven took it and wrapped it around himself. If Nic was getting cold, he wasn't complaining. |
Kale watched him, "What's that?" he asked.
-- Finally Laurel seemed to be snapping out of it a bit... only to start falling back asleep. She frowned a bit, trying to focus on Nic. She didn't understand why it was so cold on the beach... |
The boy glanced at Kale, a little confused. He didn't seem to realize what he was doing.
-- Nic shook Laurel a little, trying to keep her awake. |
Kale repeated himself, gesturing to the shirt.
-- Laurel looked jolted, blinking up at Nic in confusion. "Wha...?" and she yawned. |
The boy suddenly clutched it tighter. "Nothing," he replied a little too quickly.
-- "Stay awake," he told Laurel. |
Kale blinked before he muttered, "Don't make me strip search you," he threatened with a voice too tired to carry out the threat.
-- Laurel frowned, "Why?" she whined a little. |
Kale's threat still seemed to frighten Fin. He tried to back up again. "It's nothing," he repeated as he turned away from Kale.
-- "Trust me," Nic told Laurel gently. |
Kale raised an eyebrow, waiting.
-- Laurel stared back at Nic for a long moment before nodding, "... then keep me awake," she whispered. |
Fin said nothing more, waiting for Kale to forget about it.
-- Nic shook Laurel a little again before pausing as if it dawned on him that he had somehow misinterpreted Laurel. |
Kale didn't. The eyebrow remained raised.
-- Laurel was shaken up again, "No..." she complained loudly before grabbing Nic's head and yanking him down into a deep kiss. |
Fin shifted as he waited some more.
-- Nic was a little startled, but he let her. Raven looked away, but not because he was a jealous fake boyfriend. |
"Is it purely personal?" Kale asked.
-- Laurel continued, it was definitely keeping her awake. Meanwhile, Wolfe started up the boat, removing the anchor. |
Fin looked confused again, but after a moment he replied, "... Yes."
-- Raven helped out Wolfe with what he could before standing around awkwardly as he didn't look at Nic and Laurel. |
Kale nodded and dropped it.
-- Once they were ready, Wolfe took the boat out to sea. |
Fin was surprised and relived that it had worked. But Kale could tell he had told the truth.
|
When Kale, Blaze and Fin arrived at the docks, Frei was waiting. Presumably for Raven. She was in a cute bikini with the typical floaties on her arms and blank expression.
-- Laurel finally wrapped her arms around Nic's neck, "I wanna sleep..." she complained in his ear. Wolfe had put the boat on autosteering and was digging through the different conpartments. Raven could tell he was getting angry at how disorganized the boat was. |
Fin didn't notice. As the boat started to stop, he started to get pale again.
-- Nic shook his head. "Not yet," he told her. To keep himself busy, Raven tried to figure out what Wolfe was looking for so he could help search. |
Kale glanced at Frei, "Perfect," he stated, "Frei, make sure he doesn't do anything brainless until Wolfe gets back." Frei's eyes focused on Fin, looking him up and down with an unreadable expression.
Then Kale turned to Blaze, "I still need to find Hayden..." he paused, it looked like the next words were hard for him to say, "And I could use help." -- Laruel whined a little more, clearly starting to drift again. Wolfe was looking for the other medical kit, in which was an IV. |
Fin didn't look at Frei for a long time, and when he did he looked rather surprised.
"... Take Snow," Blaze suggested as she started walking off the boat. -- Raven nodded and started helping Wolfe look. |
Frei tilted her head a little, "Looks like a kitten," she decided, eyeing Fin, "...the runt.".
"... Snow can't," Kale replied quietly after a moment. -- Finally Wolfe found the IV finally and walked over to Laurel and Nic. |
Fin frowned, looking a little insulted. And when he frowned, there seemed to be something a little familiar in the way his eyebrows creased and edges in his lips pulled down.
"You haven't asked," Blaze noted. -- When Wolfe came over Nic tried to pull away a little to give Wolfe room. |
Frei motioned for Fin to follow her as she turned to leave.
Kale shook his head, "She was never trained to not be seen. You've seen her in action," he noted, referring to the Yin Long incident. -- Laurel refused to let go and Wolfe sighed a little. |
Blaze sighed as she stopped walking. "... I don't think it would be wise for me to come," she told him.
As Fin glanced between Kale and Blaze talking, he slowly got up on shaky legs and followed after Frei. -- Since he was stuck there, Nic did his best to keep Laurel still as he made room for Wolfe to put the IV in. |
Kale was silent for a long moment, "... Alright," he replied quietly, not pushing her further.
Frei led him right to the pool, "You swim, kitten?" she asked seriously. -- Wolfe quickly put the IV in with expert hands. Once it was in he found Nic's face within Laurel's arms and looked him in the eyes, "It's fine if she sleeps now." |
So after a moment, Blaze kept walking.
Fin looked around, seeming surprised that no one else was around. After looking around for another moment or two, he replied, "Don't call me kitten." -- Nic nodded and glanced back at Laurel to see if she had heard that. |
Frei blinked, expression blank but showing a little confusion, "But you are," she replied with no illintent.
-- Laurel was already asleep, grip loosing on Nic. |
That seemed to confuse Fin a little. "... People call me Fin," he told her.
-- When her grip was lose enough, Nic pulled away and stood up so his body wouldn't keep her warm. |
Frei frowned ever so slightly, "But you're not a fish," she replied.
-- "With rest she'll recover well," Wolfe started before going back to the helm. |
