Blaze got down.
After a bit a shadow moved, Kale's form crept closer to Blaze.
Blaze didn't say anything, but she got more irritated as Kale crept closer.
When Kale got closer he pulled his black mask up a little, stared at Blaze. "What are you doing here?" he whispered.
"You didn't check in," Blaze snapped quietly at him.
"I couldn't," Kale whispered back seriously, "... How careful were you coming here?"
Blaze didn't dignify that with an answer. "I'll tell Wolfe not to wet his pants then," she replied.
Kale shook his head, "You can't leave," he stated, "I won't risk it."
"Of course," Blaze whispered sarcastically.
Kale's eyes narrowed a little, "Hayden's here," he whispered with a deathly seriousness.
Blaze shook her head. "Of course he is," she sighed. She believed him, but she didn't believe her bad luck.
Kale watched her for a moment, "I need to find out what he's doing. He can't possibly know we're here but I need to make sure," he explained, "Since you're here, I should be able to find that out faster."
"Good," Blaze replied, looking like she wanted to leave.
"I need your full support," Kale replied, "Leave your feelings out of it." He seemed to be perfectly serious as he turned.
Blaze didn't say anything. If it was Haydin then she'd fully support Kale. But she didn't have to like it.
Kale vanished back into the shadows, evidently expecting Blaze to follow as he started towards the next roof.
Blaze did follow Kale carefully.
Eventually they came to a little niche. It looked like Kale had been camping out there. There were a couple of wrappers that had fallen from his bag. Notably, the wrappers were not from candy but different protein bars. Kale tried to pick them up before Blaze noticed.
Blaze didn't notice, didn't care, or had emotionally removed herself like Kale had suggested.
Kale motioned for her to take a seat on the ground as he pulled out a tablet. He flipped over the virtual screen and a map opened. Blaze would recognize it as the surrounding area. Kale explained where he had first spotted Hayden. He'd followed him for awhile just to be certain. He told Blaze that it was odd Farren was no in sight. Farren was always in the same area Hayden. That, more than anything, was making Kale suspicious and a bit nervous. Until he found Farren and figured out what Hayden was doing here, he wouldn't be sending any messages back to Wolfe. Farren was as big of a genius with technology as Zala was with math.
Blaze nodded, listening to everything Kale said.
When Kale finished he put the map away, "He's staying in that hotel," he motioned to the right, "He goes out every night and tonight, I'm going to investigate his room."
Blaze nodded, waiting to be told her job.
"I need a look out," Kale explained, watching Blaze.
Blaze nodded even though she looked a little bored.
"We have a few hours until the sun sets enough to start," Kale said quietly before pausing, "Are you hungry?"
Blaze shook her head and didn't look like she wanted to talk.
Kale didn't seem to either. He crept back over the ledge and started watching the street again.
So Blaze rested while Kale watched, waiting for the sunset.
Laurel looked over at Nic, getting more and more irritated as he continued to sleep peacefully. Suddenly she lashed out with her fist and punched Nic rather hard on his side.
-- Frei's eyebrows were creased sightly but in Frei body language it was a full pout. The growing jaguar sat in her lap as she stroked it's head. |
Normally, that would have woken him up. But he seemed dug in there like a tick as he started slipping, in danger of tipping over.
-- "... I thought you were going to give her to Laurel," Raven sighed. |
Laurel blinked, he wasn't in a normal sleep? She slowly frowned before punching his side again, a bit harder.
-- Frei continued to pout, "She's got so many..." she said quietly. |
Nic slowly tipped over. After awhile Laurel could tell that he was coming out of it, but it was taking a long time. After almost five minutes, Nic started blinking open his eyes.
-- Raven sighed a little with a small smirk. She was hitting a soft spot, but Raven kept insisting. "And how are you going to take care of it when it grows bigger?" |
Laurel continued to hit him, not happy at all. When he finally started to open his eyes she leaned over him, gripping the sides of his face and peering intently into his eyes.
-- Frei continued to pet the cat, ignoring Raven's question. |
Nic groaned a little as he came to, feeling the bruises.
-- "Well?" Raven asked, waiting for her to answer. |
Laurel continued to grip his head, "You didn't take it, did you?" she whispered fiercely.
-- "I'll feed you to it," Frei blankly whispered. |
It took Nic a few moments to process Laurel's words. Then he slowly shook his head as he tried to sit up.
-- "... That's... not very nice," Raven replied. |
Laurel pushed him back down, not letting him up, "If you ever get near that stuff again I'll..." and began to cuss at him once more.
-- Frei clutched the cat a little tighter, causing it to hiss a little. |
"I... didn't," Nic muttered as he kept coming out of it. "I... was meditating."
-- "Don't hurt her," Raven told Frei gently. "I'm not gonna rip her out of your arms." |
Laurel didn't look like she believed him, "Meditating?" she clarified.
-- Frei didn't look like she believed him, eyeing Raven closely. But she loosened her grip on the cat. |
