"This is a waste of time," Dewei decided and started to stand. Long stood with him.
"You want Ming Yue, don't you?" Pepper inquired casually, grinning fiercely up at them.
"Not enough to put up with you," Dewei replied as he started to walk out. Long followed.
"Or perhaps... Dominic Duncan?" Pepper continued as she took another drink.
That made Dewei stop. He paused for a moment before ordering something for himself and an expensive drink for Pepper before going back to the table. Long stood near them, making sure no one was listening in on the conversation.
Pepper laughed at him and shook her head, "You drink it," she said of the expensive drink he offered her, "Maybe it'll dry you out a little." She picked up her beer and took another large swallow.
Dewei let it be in case she changed her mind as he had a little of his own.
"You want to dance?" she asked Dewei with a wicked glint in her eyes.
"Why don't you tell me more first while I drink?" he suggested.
Pepper chuckled a little, "What do you want to know?" she asked as she sat back.
So Dewei started asking some basic questions, trying to get some information out of Pepper.
Pepper seemed to be an expert at dodging questions. She gave him enough meat to keep him interested but it was clear she wouldn't be giving him anything good for free. After awhile stretched and got up, "I'm not a wet towel like you two, so I'm going to dance for a bit," she informed them with a smirk.
Dewei put down his glass and looked like he was about to stand. But nothing happened. He frowned a little. After another moment he cussed a little under his breath and managed a glare at Long before his eyes closed and he passed out in his chair.
Long walked back over and adjusted Dewei so he wouldn't fall out of his chair silently. |
Pepper arched an eyebrow at Long, her smirk deepening a little.
"Don't mention Dominic again until you're standing in front of Sheng," Long instructed. "Dewei won't remember this conversation as it should be."
Pepper chuckled, "Perfect," she took the last swig of her beer, "You're such a dear," she stated, patting his chest as she walked past.
Long let Pepper, taking a seat at the table as he kept an eye on her.
So Pepper danced for awhile, mostly breakdancing... which she was superbly good at. When she had a faint glow of sweat she returned to Long and ordered another beer.
Long didn't say anything, and he didn't drink anything either.
Pepper sighed a little, "How much longer does this 'precious time' last?" she inquired, bored.
"You done?" Long asked, sounding a little surprised. He had expected her to party longer.
Pepper slowly looked over at him, her eyes pierced right through him. She had a mission, she refused to waste time.
Then why did she take the time to break dance? But Long didn't ask as he tossed Dewei over his shoulder like he was a jacket. "I'll take you to Sheng then," he said as he started to walk out.
Pepper followed along behind.
So Long procured a means of transportation and took Pepper to Chicago. Dewei was out the entire journey and Long didn't speak unless spoken to.
Pepper didn't speak much either. She seemed like a completely different person with Long than she had been with Dewei.
Once in Chicago, Long took Pepper to one of the many nice towers. He carried Dewei to the elevator, past many guards who looked like they were afraid and disgusted at the same time, and took Pepper to the top floor. At the top they entered a large suite that looked like it spanned the entire floor. They were shortly greeted by Ling who was dressed in an elegant gown like the plan had been to go out for the night. "Welcome," she told Pepper kindly. "Sheng will be available momentarily. May I get you anything?"
Pepper snorted and ignore Ling, looking around. She didn't seem very impressed.
Ling didn't let that bother her as she led them deeper into the suite to a lounge area. Long dumped Dewei onto one of the couches here. He and Ling stood quietly as they waited. A minute or two later Sheng walked into the room in a nice suit. Before he could say anything, Long walked over to him and whispered a few things in his ear. Sheng nodded a bit, expression giving nothing away. When Long was done, he addressed Ling first.
Sheng kissed Ling lightly on the cheek before asking, "I'm sorry to make you wait longer, but could you see to Dewei and then wait in the living room for me." Ling nodded obediently with a small smile. Then Sheng gestured for Pepper to follow him as he began to walk down the hallway. |
Pepper's look became disgusted seemingly with Ling's passivity. She snorted again as she followed after Sheng.
Long followed after Pepper as Sheng took them to what looked like a study. Long closed the door behind them before standing beside Sheng who took a seat at his desk. Pepper had a few comfortable looking chairs to choose from. Sheng said nothing, waiting and watching Pepper.
Pepper didn't sit in the chairs, she went over and plopped down on Sheng's desk, seemingly sizing him up as she stared down at him.
Sheng allowed Pepper to sit on his desk. He also sized her up for a moment, not looking intimidated by her. He didn't seem attracted to her, but he seemed to find her personality intriguing. But the silence didn't last too long, it looked like Sheng also wanted to get to business. "I hear you have some information I might find valuable," he told her.
Pepper smirked, she seemed to like getting straight to the point, "Now I wonder which little birdy could have told you that," she replied with an eyeroll, sliding off his desk with a glance at Long before she stretched a little. She appeared to be totally at ease in his office.
The tiniest little detail didn't appear to escape Sheng. Just like Wolfe body was superior, Sheng's perception was superior. "A little birdy that desperately needs a vacation, but refuses to take one," he replied.
Long stood there quietly, seeming to be used to this. |
Pepper laughed at that, turning and smirking at Sheng. At that moment she decided something, putting her hands on her hips, "The name's Pepper, I'm a Neonate who's here to hitchhike on your resources." The way she kept stretching her arms seemed a little odd to Sheng. Most people wouldn't notice but the muscles on her arms seemed... harder and less flexible than usual, even for a strong person. They didn't look much bigger than the average girl's though.
"A 'Neonate?'" Sheng asked with a small smirk as he made an obvious glance at her neon orange hair.
Pepper smirked, flipping her hair a little dramatically, "I didn't think of it, our creator did. He liked metaphors."
"Your creator, huh?" Sheng asked, sitting back in his chair. "I should have you talk with my geneticist. The Yin Long enjoy metaphors, but they could use a little more plain and simple creativity."
Pepper's smirk slowly grew, "Then you'll love what I'm about to share with you," she stated seriously.
