I wasn't big on tentacl with it's tumblr like format .-.

And it was like they took the CB, in my opinion, from Gaia and gave it its own website.

Tohopekaliga 01-14-2017 12:02 PM

Some people like the CB style. Just look at recolor. :P

Yokuutsu 01-14-2017 01:12 PM

The difference is that the entirety of recolor is not CB, parts of it is. And originally like none of recolor was CBish

The entirety of tentacl was CB.

-Senpai- 01-14-2017 01:16 PM

Gaia's kinda really horrible with its "If you don't look cool people won't talk to you" thing I tested this with 2 accounts and the one with the cooler outfit had more friends and random people were more friendly..

Espy 01-14-2017 09:13 PM

I think that happens on most sites.....

How's Recolor doing?

Potironette 01-15-2017 07:55 AM

It looks a lot more full of stuff than the last time I went to it--it's also a lot easier to figure out (the first time I signed up I gave up looking for how to earn currency xD). I didn't stay on long but it's still full of people?

Tohopekaliga 01-15-2017 11:59 AM

Thanks to TekTek, recolor is fairly well known.

Potironette 01-15-2017 06:41 PM

-looks up TekTek-
I don't think I ever stayed in Gaia long enough to find out about TekTek--and now it's poofed! Which makes sense, though.

Tohopekaliga 01-15-2017 08:02 PM

Yeah, TekTek was a thing a few years ago. The big reason Gaia finally made them go away was that Tekton started Recolor, and covered TekTek in ads about it.

Potironette 01-15-2017 08:26 PM

Ohh so that's why Recolor got popular from TekTek. I guess they did a good job of getting people from Gaia x'D

Yokuutsu 01-16-2017 12:37 AM

The whole Gaia-Tektek thing still makes me angry since the letter told him to take the website down, whether he took down the recolor ads or not...and Gaia still doesn't have a good replace imo

Panda 01-25-2017 03:50 AM

A lot of my sites are shutting down. :(

ml1201 01-26-2017 11:13 AM

Yeah, not many of them are getting the money they need I think.Or are just terrible sites. ^^;

Neonriser 02-01-2017 02:17 PM

What about syndrone? Will it survive?

Could this be the end of the "customizable avatar" era or something?

Coda 02-01-2017 02:26 PM

Certainly not. Being able to customize your character has become a staple of modern games. However, the era of web forums is certainly on the decline, and customizable avatars alone aren't enough to make a thriving community off of anymore.

I think I'm going to miss the good old days in Syndrone several years from now. It's avatar system is so stylish that it makes Gaia look like its for babies (Gaia is one of the most regretful things I did online FYI). Worried if trisphee would end up the same...

Coda 02-01-2017 05:39 PM

Never fear! We've got no plans to go anywhere, and if we did -- for some unfathomable reason -- decide that the site was unsustainable, we would give plenty of advance notice and full communication instead of disappearing without a word. We fully intend to do everything in our power to keep as much of the site as we can going for as long as we can.

Even then, should the worst come to pass, I've already got plans to keep a read-only archive of the site online indefinitely, so you can always go back and see it. I'd like to even try to find a way to keep the avatar editor online, even though you wouldn't be able to save them to the site.

ml1201 02-01-2017 06:37 PM

That would be pretty interesting to see. o.o

Coda 02-01-2017 07:45 PM

It would basically be the avatar editor we have now (or the new one Toho's working on), with something similar to the shops interface instead of a personal inventory (since we wouldn't have personal inventories anymore, since the site would be read-only), a save function that would give you some text you could copy somewhere if you wanted to edit it later, a load function where you could paste in that text, and a download function that would turn the avatar into a PNG file that you could upload to some other site.

Or at least, that's what it WOULD be like. I don't expect to ever actually DO it, because I don't expect the site to die.

Tohopekaliga 02-01-2017 08:38 PM

Oh, Trisphee's definitely not going anywhere. It'll always be here. I'll keep paying for it.

I still have high hopes for Trisphee growing larger and self-sustaining, but it's true, a forum alone isn't quite enough.

ml1201 02-01-2017 09:01 PM

Which is why I can't wait for that game Coda mentioned possibly putting together much later on. owo

Panda 02-01-2017 09:44 PM

All I have left on Gaia.
I really hate their gold counts...it's too much and too annoying.

Coda 02-01-2017 10:16 PM

Don't say "much later on" because the initial release of it is scheduled for spring. :o

EDIT: Unless you mean the ridiculously ambitious RPG idea that I want to do someday... THAT one's definitely "much later on".

ml1201 02-02-2017 01:16 AM

The one were we can make pets to be added to it, and matching stuff. XD

Coda 02-02-2017 01:18 AM

Okay, yes, that one's slated for spring. It's making good progress!

ml1201 02-02-2017 10:27 AM

Just let us know if you need some creatures drawn up! XD

Coda 02-02-2017 11:42 AM

You know... We might. I'll have to bring it up with the staff.

McSwiggins 03-26-2017 06:39 PM

Have you seen the crap that is Syndrone? I mean, I loved the place at the time but IcontrolAwesomeness made an announcement saying he was quitting bringing new features and stuff, then came back and said he was going to continue the site then turned around and said the same as the first announcement. He sold the site to a lurker and a noob and they made one announcement and disappeared. No one can get a hold of them. The one announcement was in September.

ml1201 03-27-2017 05:12 PM

Damn, that sucks, I know a few people who liked the site.

Tohopekaliga 03-27-2017 05:15 PM

The weirdest thing about the Syndrone situation is...they are still paying the bills. Syndrone uses the same hosting provider as Trisphee, and I know they don't have pay in advance options, only monthly based on use of resources. So...Syndrone has been radio silence for half a year, but they've been paying the bills all this time.

McSwiggins 03-27-2017 05:21 PM

Ml1201: It does suck.

Toho: Seriously? Why are they paying the bills monthly if they dont want anything to do with the site? Thats kind of a waste of money. And really, last time I popped on to see what was up, I was the only one on. All 3 times and it wasnt at like 4 am either. The forums are pretty dead. I dont know, that just seems weird that they keep paying monthly but choose to neglect the site.

ml1201 03-27-2017 05:22 PM

That is weird, unless the person has no concern about money?

Tohopekaliga 03-28-2017 03:24 PM

Well, it's not terribly expensive to maintain, if you (like emilio) are a software engineer type. We usually have enough disposable income to foot the bill of something like keeping the site up.

It's still odd, however.

McSwiggins 03-28-2017 04:43 PM

Well, I guess that's true. But it still stikes me odd that they would continue paying monthly for it if they dont do anything with it, wont even message people back about their plans for it.

Coda 03-28-2017 05:06 PM

Heh, it's not that strange. My wife had me set up a website for a podcast she was going to do like three years ago, and then the person she was planning to work with on it just up and vanished. That site is still online and I'm still paying for it. (Admittedly I have it scaled back to an absolutely minimalist plan so it's like $7/mo for the host and $10/year for the domain name.) When the numbers are small enough and the automatic payments take care of themselves, it's easy to just not even think about it.

McSwiggins 03-28-2017 07:21 PM

Meh, I guess that's true but I still dont see the point in it but I guess maybe its because I tend not to hold on to things if I dont use them.

Coda 03-28-2017 09:26 PM

When you have that many kids, you have to have fastidious habits or else your house will get overrun! :P

McSwiggins 03-28-2017 09:28 PM

Haha yeah, exactly! I really wish I could save a bunch of things but I cant let my house get too cluttered or its not going to be safe for them to play in. :)

ml1201 03-28-2017 10:07 PM

I remember trying to run a minecraft server with my brother and having someone I knew run it for us because they had more time to manage things then me and my brother. It was originally $13 a month, which we alternated payments, but I put a limit on the number of mods that the server was supposed to have, and the guy managing it just kept adding more and more even after I said no (mostly because my computer was having issues because the mods were poorly coded or broken). So when I had to get a new car because mine was just too expensive to keep repair, I said screw it, I'm not paying for the server anymore and if my brother wanted to keep it up he had to pay for it. I also had it with the guy managing it because when he set up the server he did it with all his own personal information, name, email and paypal account. Then claimed that the host had it set up so it would do things by the IP address for signing into the console for the server and if either me or my brother tried to sign in it would lock the whole thing and no one would have access. Which I know is bull because one of the people on our server worked for a server doing coding and stuff, and they had the same company. Not only that but he also kept changing some of the game coding and settings that I told him to leave alone. He was basically trying to have complete control over a server that didn't belong to him. Needless to say I don't trust him anymore with anything. He's also now my ex because of stuff like this he kept pulling.

nyreen 03-28-2017 10:16 PM

I just read through this thread... eugh. Solia. I had a really bad experience on there. I still like going on there to write, I have a few RP partners, and I like the avatars + the items but... the community can be really bad at times. :p-ugh:

I'm really sad that Ernya shut down.

Edit: I also wanted to add that I know someone who codes. He coded a website for me and a few other people, we were suppose to start a company that focused on content relevant to video games but it fell flat.... because of disagreements and the inability to communicate with some working on the project. Is anyone here interested in their work or?...
