That wasn't exactly how Raven had hoped he would respond. So he backed off a little.
Wolfe was quiet for awhile, "Then I'll call you De," he replied, "because you're my demon."
Raven thought about that for a moment before nodding. Wolfe could have done worse.
Wolfe seemed to think for another long moment, "Fallen angel..." he muttered, "is that good or bad?" He seemed genuinely confused.
"I think it's good," Raven replied. "Everyone might be trying to drag you down, but you're still an angel," he reminded him.
Wolfe tilted his head a little, "You like imagery," he noted.
"Uh..." Raven muttered, "I... guess?"
"I'm not used to metaphors," Wolfe explained, "but if you mean I overcome obstacles, I suppose that's true. I have to. The fallen angel image is nice but I'm no angel."
"And what if I think you are?" Raven asked.
Wolfe looked at Raven for a long moment, "How would you define an angel?" he asked quietly.
Raven briefly wondered if Wolfe was fishing for a compliment intentionally. "Someone... who protects others," he decided. "Puts the people he cares about first because his heart is kind... And they're pretty radiant - angels. They turn heads wherever they go - whether an angel is covered in mud or picture perfect, he just sorta has that aura that normal people can't really resist. Oh, and I hear they're damn good fliers."
"You don't believe an angel is innocent and pure?" Wolfe asked quietly.
Raven was silent for a long moment, turning away. "I... think..." he replied quietly as he turned back to Wolfe, "that those are sticky words... I'm not sure if anyone can really be innocent and pure... but, I do think intentions and feelings can be. It starts in the heart - even a demon's heart can have innocent and pure love even if the demon isn't."
Wolfe was silent for a long time. "You... really believe that?" he barely whispered, that seemed to have finally effected him.
Raven wasn't looking at him again. He nodded a little heavily like he was partially convincing himself of what he had just said again.
Wolfe slowly leaned in a kissed Raven's cheek, "Then you're the real angel," he whispered.
Raven didn't say anything. Now he was having trouble untangling himself from his own thoughts.
Wolfe took Raven's hand in his and started to lead him further into the jungle.
Raven let Wolfe lead him, still not quite completely there.
"Should we fly again soon, angel?" he asked quietly.
"... If you want to," Raven replied quietly, starting to think of jet packs and falling shoes.
"I wouldn't let you fall," Wolfe continued after a moment as if thinking that was the reason for Raven's quietness, "I'd give you your own set of wings."
Raven smirked a little. "I know," he told Wolfe as he started to pull himself out of it. "I just... Sometimes the past gets to me."
Wolfe nodded a little, he could understand that. "What could be so bad in your past?" he asked quietly.
Raven looked away again for a moment before shaking his head at himself. "I guess... I've never really told anyone before..." he mused. Then he swallowed a little. After awhile longer he whispered as he scratched his head, "I... never really... had that chance to be innocent or pure." It didn't look like he was going to say anything else.
Wolfe shrugged a little, "We have more in common than I thought," he replied.
Raven didn't share anymore as he looked off to the side silently.
Wolfe continued to lead him for awhile before stopping in a small clearing. He sat down on a mossy rock and looked up at Raven, "I won't care, you know," he said quietly, "whatever made you unpure."
Raven sat down on the ground after a moment, playing with a twig. "It's..." he replied after a few minutes, "just more humiliating than anything else, really..."
Wolfe continued to stare at Raven, letting him speak if he wanted to... or remain silent if he wished.
After another minute or two he explained quietly, "When I was a kid... someone I trusted... started using me... It happened for years before someone else noticed."
Wolfe's eyes instantly deadened as he slowly tensed back up. He seemed to almost whither as his gaze dropped to the ground.
Raven didn't say anything more, still staring at the ground and playing with a twig.
Wolfe was silent for a long time. "... That's... not humiliating," he finally murmured, deep anger coming through despite his quiet voice.
Raven swallowed a little, but remained silent.
After a moment, Wolfe stood and started pacing. He looked like a tight spring, ready to pounce. He cussed quietly but fiercely, "No wonder Frei... accepted you," he stated before suddenly turning on Raven. "Who is it?" he demanded in a whisper, voice taking on an edge Raven had never heard from him. His intention was clear.
Raven swallowed again, becoming overly tense himself. "... Ryuji...?" he whispered, a little fear in his voice.
Wolfe froze a little, a darkness filling his eyes as he slowly sank back down on the rock and put a hand over his face.
After another minute, Raven moved a little closer to the rock. "... Ryuji...?" he repeated quietly, still a little fear in his voice. "W... W-Why... did you bring up... Frei..."
Wolfe's silence spoke volumes.
