"...What the hell are those?" Red asked again.
"Berries." It was the same answer as before. "But what kind of berries?" Red sighed in irritation. |
"Linai Berries," Q informed. "They taste horrible but numb wounds and clean them well. You have a lot of questions, right? Now is as good a time as any. I have some, too."
"What's yours?" Red asked.
"Why did your father sell you to The Facility?" Q asked, wincing a bit as the medic shifted his arm to get a better view of his hip.
"My father is..." Red snorted in disgust- crossing his arms. "I wasn't sold, I was volunteered for part of this little pet project. Volunteered without anyone asking me."
Q frowned at him. "Your father is heartless."
"I didn't say that." Red frowned.
"He sounds like he is," Q informed, calmly. "But I don't have the best opinions of humans."
"...I would imagine not." Red admitted. "But don't give me any bleeding heart...humans didn't have it any better in there."
"Children." The man said- almost in correction. |
"To answer your earlier question," Q hummed, looking at Red. "I did reach out... to more then one person. You were just the first person to listen."
"...Huh?" Red blinked. "Why wouldn't anyone else come? You were sending some very strong signals."
"No one else heard them," Q informed, before he frowned. "Well, one did... but his mind was so dark that I pulled away. He was the closest connection to me... the first one they made."
"...Kayen Reese." Red's eyes widened a bit. "Oh crap, he got out too! With those two psychos! He's going to kill everyone!"
Then Red frowned. "But then there was that other guy, the one you and the doc knew." Red said. "Who was that and what does he want?" |
Q looked over at his mother sadly for a moment. "Luda... Luda is my brother."
He sat up as the medic finished with his back, looking at Red. Almost twenty years ago, in your time," He mumbled. "Humans began to move onto our home, coming in waves from the stars. They built towns and scientists got to know our people... you call them 'Silvers'. They became... friends. "The Scientist named Alec, the one you met, became close to my mother and she wound up baring two children... Luda and myself. But when the scientists learned of Shasha and that it could do something for them, the humans turned hostile because the Silvers wouldn't give it up." "They left," the Queen continued. "And began attacking us, wanting all of our Shasha. I believe they think they can use it to power their machines, just as they think it powers our minds." "Alec took Luda and raised him and Assah took me and raised me here," Q explained, looking at the woman. "She married Appah and he raised me like I was his son. We are treated no different, even though we are hybrids." |
"Human and Silvers...they never said anything about it...they couldn't or people would go crazy about the idea." Red shook his head. "If anyone found out that their lead scientist had children with a Silver, he'd be crucified."
Red leaned back against another rock. "You guys are the enemy." Red sighed. "So that's all we've been taught and had repeated to us over and over again...we were little kids when we went in so it's all we grew up with. That's why Denum is acting like that." |
"I hope that we can make him feel at home," Q's mom whispered. "We want nothing but peace with humans, but... to hurt their own is very cruel."
