Bee nodded, "There must be a good reason for him to be left in the dark..." she agreed, "We better not do anything that might clue him in."
Raven poked at the food for awhile longer before going to give Wolfe a call.
It look a moment, but Wolfe answered the call. He was standing in a room with touchscreen walls with a touch screen table in the middle. Every inch of the screens seemed to be filled with photos and maps and documents and lists. Wolfe looked up from the table and nodded to Raven, waiting for him to speak.
Raven was silent for a long moment. Then finally he replied, "You told me to call when we were in the air."
Wolfe nodded, "You got going quickly." he stated.
Raven nodded a little.
Wolfe glanced back at the table, "Did Dan come with you?"
"Yes," he replied. "And Bee."
Wolfe blinked before nodding, "Good." he paused, "I presume Dominic's still not back?"
Raven nodded. "There's no telling when he'll return," he confirmed.
Wolfe sighed a little, "Alright, get here as quickly as you can. We need to deal with Laurel's situation before he returns."
"Alright," Raven replied.
Wolfe paused as he looked Raven over. Then, surprisingly, he sighed, "What have I done to you? You look worse than shit." he muttered, "God forbid I ever put a gun in your hand..." he shook his head.
"Huh?" Raven said, looking a little taken aback. "What are you talking about?"
Wolfe gave him a sad smile, "Just stay sane. We can't deal with anyone else becoming mentally unstable."
Raven sighed a little. "I'll try," he promised.
Wolfe nodded, "I don't know what state Laurel will be in." he cautioned.
Raven nodded a little. "I know," he replied calmly.
Wolfe sighed, "And don't try to get physical with her father... if you accidentally hurt him it will drive Laurel away further." Raven got the feeling that Wolfe felt at least a bit helpless with this situation. He clearly didn't want to send Raven in blindly but didn't know what else to do.
Raven nodded some more, letting Wolfe say what he felt like he needed to say.
Wolfe seemed about out of things to say. "... Be careful." he said quietly.
Raven nodded again. "We will," he replied.
Wolfe stared at Raven for a moment longer before nodding, "Do you have any questions?"
Raven shook his head. "I'll wing it," he figured with a shrug.
Wolfe nodded, "Call if you need anything." he stated before moving to hang up.
Raven nodded before Wolfe hung up. And so Raven went to prepare for their arrival.
Wolfe was there to meet them when they landed. He nodded to Bee. It looked like a performance was going on so the majority of the group, including James, was absent.
Yue and Blaze weren't there to meet them when they landed. So Raven and Dan went to talk with Wolfe.
Bee trailed behind them. Wolfe nodded to them, "We'll be leaving England shortly. You can fly with us until we reach Sweden, then you'll go to Laurel." he explained.
Both of them were pretty quiet. Raven was looking better still, but he was still just as serious. There seemed to be something on Dan's mind, but then again she usually looked that way.
Frei suddenly came walking up. She blinked blandly up at Raven before looking at Dan with an interested expression. Wolfe put a hand on her head before looking back at the newcomers, "Frei will show you where you'll be staying until we reach Sweden." he stated as he turned to leave.
It was difficult to tell what Dan was thinking as she looked at Frei. Raven turned to Frei to lead the way.
So they got settled into their rooms. Both of them seemed to adjust fairly quickly. As the days past, Raven spent a lot of time in his room. Dan wandered a lot, but somehow she always seemed to end up bumping into one of the neonates. She didn't say much, but sometimes it looked like she wanted to say more. |
Tulip seemed to take a liking to Dan and she giggled as she looked her up and down, "You're the artist, right?" she asked one day, "Can you paint me?" she said as she struck a beautiful pose. Zala, who was often by her side, rolled her eyes.
"Uh..." murmured Dan who was having a difficult time taking a liking to Tulip. "I don't have any paints..."
Tulip blinked, "What? Didn't they give you any? You should have just taken some from James." she huffed. Zala sighed, "We could probably dig around and find you some if you'd like." she said calmly.
"... I've had a pretty serious case of artist's block lately," Dan replied.
Tulip blinked, "Well, that's all the more reason to draw me!" she giggled, "I'm inspirational!"
Zala rolled her eyes again before shoving Tulip. |
"... It doesn't work like that," Dan tried to explain.
Tulip pouted, "Why not?!" she whined.
"Because artist's block has never worked like that," she retorted.
