Wolfe frowned a little, "It doesn't come naturally to everyone," he defended.
"I get that," Raven reassured Wolfe. "But do you want to, or do you feel like you should?"
Wolfe took a long time to think it over, "I like... your outlook on life," he stated hesitantly.
Raven nodded a little. "Good," he decided.
Wolfe seemed a little confused by that response.
"... So..." Raven asked after a few moments, "have you had time to think about what we are?"
"What... we are?" Wolfe asked, still looking confused.
"Yeah..." Raven said, scratching his head a little. "Like what are we to each other?" Hadn't he talked to Aaron at all?
Apparently not very much. "... I want you as a boyfriend," Wolfe stated with pure honesty, "But I don't know how much time I can give you... right now."
Raven seemed a little relieved. "That's alright," he replied. "I know how important finding this lab is to you. I just needed to know if we wanted the same thing or not."
Wolfe seemed a little surprised, "... You like me?" he asked, not sounding like he really believed him.
-- Suddenly a phone rang in the room and Laurel quickly got up with a grunt, "That's weird," she muttered, going over to the couch and picking up a phone Nic hadn't seen before. It looked pretty technologically advanced so it clearly wasn't one Laurel had picked out. "Hello?" she asked, putting it to her ear. She listened for a moment, "Oh, yes? ... You found what? ... Oh! You did? Thank you!" she smiled, "Thank you so much, Akil!" |
Raven blinked, now he was looking confused. "... Well..." he muttered. "I was the one who kissed you first."
-- Nic cussed a little as he stood up quickly and leaned on the dresser a little for support. |
Wolfe blinked, "Oh," he replied. After a moment he actually smiled. He seemed to have a happy glow.
-- Laurel listened a little more before hanging up and turned back to Nic, "They're shipping-" she gasped, "What the terra are you doing?" she demanded, "Sit back down!" |
That seemed to take Raven by surprise, but after a moment he smiled back.
-- "You told the Okorie where we are?" he asked, refusing to sit back down. |
Wolfe continued to smile until he blinked and put a hand to a small ear piece in his ear. "... what?" he asked in disbelief, "... a package... was just delivered? To the front door? Did James order something? ... I'll be right over." He looked back at Raven, "Have to run," he sighed.
-- Laurel blinked, "Of course not," she scoffed as she moved over to him and tried to get him back to the bed. |
"Hold up," Raven told him as he quickly got up and went over to Wolfe to give him a quick kiss.
-- Nic still refused to sit down even though it looked like he knew he should sit. "Why... do you have a phone of theirs?" he asked. |
Wolfe blinked, surprised. Then he smiled again before leaving.
-- "Dalila gave it to me," Laurel replied honestly. |
Nic wobbled a little before finally letting Laurel make him sit on the bed. She could see the struggle on his face to not let his frustration of being able to do something simple like standing overshadow what was really important right now.
Laurel sighed a little, "You almost died. Even a person like you takes days to recover from that," she reminded him as she tried to get him to lay down.
Nic was being stubborn about it, but after awhile he laid down.
Laurel didn't say anything patronizing as she sat on the bed beside him and ran a hand over his chest gently. After awhile a screen popped up from the foot of the bed, making Laurel jump a little. Wolfe's face appeared, "Laurel... you have a package."
Laurel blinked, "Already?" Amela appeared on top of Wolfe's head and screeched, making Laurel grin as Wolfe's ora seemed to get darker. "I'll be right there!" she started to get up. |
Nic sat up a little, looking at the screen without showing his back. His aura seemed to get darker as Wolfe's did. But right now it was taking the little energy he had left to sit up.
Wolfe's face disappeared and Laurel continued to smile before suddenly pausing. "Ah..." she said quietly, "In order to ship her here... they had to know..." she paused, looking back at Nic.
Nic said nothing for a long while. Then he laid back down. There wasn't anything he could do about it. "... Whatever you brought with you from Chicago, have Wolfe take a look," he told her. "And have someone double check your eyes to make sure they're healing well."
Laurel paused before nodding a little, "It doesn't matter. They won't attack us," she stated with complete certainty. Her eyes changed slightly, something dark surfacing behind them. It was obvious to Nic that she knew more than she was letting on. But she didn't share as she started for the door, "I'll be right back."
Nic didn't try to stop her. He wouldn't be able to anyway. So instead he tried to nap and regain some of his strength.
He was awoken by a screech in his ear. "Sorry!" Laurel said quickly, pulling the monkey away from Nic's nose which it was now munching happily on.
Nic didn't seem like he had missed Amela too much.
Amela was very happy to be back, climbing around Laurel's shoulders. Laurel leaned in and kissed the tip of Nic's nose as an apology. "How are you feeling?" she asked since he was awake.
"Tired," he replied. Too much excitement for one day.
Laurel nodded, stroking his hair tenderly, "Do you want to eat something or just sleep?"
"... I'll sleep some more," he decided.
Laurel nodded and leaned in, kissing his lips softly before standing and moving to the couch.
Nic continued to sleep a few hours more.
When Nic woke he was swaddled in three blankets and found he couldn't move. "Sorry," Laurel apologized as she noticed he was awake, "But I knew you'd insist on walking all the way to the juttle," she explained.
Upon further inspection of the room it became aware that all of Nic's things had been packed up in boxes. Laurel was just sealing up the last box. -- "We have to leave," Tulip explained to Raven, half flirting, "We're going to one of Kandy's resorts." |
"... Juttle?" Nic asked, just barely managing to keep his voice emotionless.
-- "Where is it?" Raven asked, not flirting back as much as he normally did. |
"We're leaving," Laurel sighed, "Wolfe wouldn't listen to me, he believes the Okorie might attack so we're going to one of Kandy's resorts."
-- "That's classified information~" Tulip teased. |
Nic nodded a little. "... But I can walk to the Juttle," he insisted.
-- "I thought we were past all this classified stuff," Raven replied. |
Laurel shook her head, "You've already done too much today," she explained, "Don't worry, I've asked someone who won't say too much."
There was a knock on the door. "C'mon in," Laurel called and in walked a very grumpy Rosen. "Really?" he complained, staring at the swaddled Nic. Laurel nodded. "He's not as heavy as he looks," she reassured him. Rosen didn't look like he believed her. -- "Well, it's a resort so I think you'll like it," Tulip filled him in before skipping away, "Get packed~" |
Later Nic would have to put some time into developing Laurel's skill for accessing how tight lipped someone else was. He looked just about as happy as Rosen.
-- Weren't they already living in a resort? But Raven got packed up. |
