Laurel remained silent and still as she stared out of the window.
"... Do you want me to leave?" he asked after awhile.
There was still no response.
So Raven stayed, but didn't try to get Laurel to talk any more.
When the Jet finally landed at James' home, Laurel didn't move. It didn't seem like she wanted to step outside. But after a moment, she did. Calmly walking down the stairs at the front of the Juttle and looking out at the crowd of Neonates and girls who had gathered.
Yue and Nic were absent when the jet arrived. Raven followed Laurel off the jet, but he tried to give her space.
Laurel left and went straight to her room.
Kale was up, expecting Blaze to come see him. He was a bit anxious. |
Raven didn't follow Laurel the entire way, stopping in the crowd to catch up with everyone else.
Blaze didn't stick around the jet too long, making her way to the infirmary. As Yue promised, Nic was still unconsciousness. And she was sitting next to his bed in the infirmary. |
Kale grinned as Blaze walked in, "Glad to see your gamble worked. I knew it would," he smiled.
Blaze smiled a little as she took a seat next to Kale. She seemed a little hesitant to say anything, container she had received from Long on her lap.
Kale looked at the container, "What's that? Candy?" he asked hopefully.
"Oh..." Blaze said. She dug around in her pocket for a short moment, but it looked like she had forgotten to bring him candy.
"No, the box," he explained, pointing to the thing in her arms.
"It's not candy," she explained without opening the box, still checking her pockets.
Kale frowned slightly, "What is it?"
After she finished checking her pockets, she was quiet awhile before answering quietly, "Something unexpected."
Kale rolled his eyes a little, "Okay, a good unexpected or a bad unexpected?"
Blaze nodded a little. It was a good thing. It looked like she was still sorting through the emotions of the past few days. After another moment she explained quietly, "Three weeks."
It took a moment for Blaze's words to sink in. Then, suddenly, he grabbed Blaze's arm, pulled her in closer and kissed her.
Blaze seemed a little embarrassed with Yue in the room, but it didn't take too long for her to get over it.
The door to the infirmary opened slowly. Laurel stood in the doorway, taking a second to look at the scene in front of her. Her gaze from behind the sunglasses took in Yue and Nic for a moment before she let out a screech of deep hatred and lunged at Yue. She was faster than before, horribly accurate at finding the places Yue's guard was down.
Kale jolted away from Blaze at the screech and looked at Laurel with wide eyes. |
Blaze stared blankly at Laurel, not believing what she was seeing. She sat there frozen as Laurel lunged at Yue.
Yue glanced up at Laurel, eyes a little blank. She raised her arms to protect herself, but she didn't move from her seat. |
Laurel knocked Yue from her seat and slammed her onto the floor. She started punching her as she continued to scream at her. This was pure, raging jealousy. She didn't seem to be any stronger than before, nor were her punches better formed, only her speed had increased.
After a brief moment, Blaze stood to go after Laurel. She had forgotten about the box and it tipped off her lap, almost falling to the floor. But she turned and caught it just before it hit the ground. She put it on Kale's bed before running over to restrain Laurel.
Laurel was uncannily good at defending herself against Blaze's attempts at restraining her. She seemed to anticipate when Blaze was attacking and dodged at the last moment. After a few attempts to catch her, she escaped by fleeing the room. But not before knocking Nic's bed over on the way out.
Kale let out a low whistle. |
Blaze was occupied with making sure Yue was alright until Nic's unconscious body fell to the floor as the bed tipped over. Then she ran over to him.
Kale was cussing, "What the terra was that?!" he demanded from his bed.
Blaze didn't say anything as she focused on making sure Nic wasn't going to slip into a coma anytime soon.
Yue stayed on the floor, still covering her face and cussing a little. |
Kale continued to cuss as he looked down at Yue, "You alright, Yue?"
Yue cussed a little more before slowly getting up. She was a little worse for the wear, but she'd live.
"I never thought I'd see the day Laurel would tackle someone to the floor..." Kale mused as he eased himself back down into a laying position.
Meanwhile, Laurel had entered Nic's room and was currently ransacking it. |
No one came to stop Laurel from ransacking Nic's room.
In the mean time, Blaze got some nurses to help set Nic back up. |
The nurses were curious how Nic ended up on the floor but didn't ask. Once he was back on the bed they checked him over thoroughly.
Thankfully, Nic was pumped full of sedatives, so he didn't wake. His vitals remained stable, but he might have a headache later.
The nurses made sure he was fine before leaving. Kale still looked confused.
Once Nic was set, Blaze and the nurses took a look at Yue. But she wouldn't let them fuss of her too long. Once everything settled, Yue resumed her place next to Nic.
Kale was looking at the container Blaze left, trying to figure it out.
Laurel, meanwhile, had found Nic's pistol and had left his room. |
Blaze sighed a little, wondering what to do next. Yue clearly wasn't going to do anything. But someone should probably go after Laurel. Where was Raven anyway?
"Seriously? What's in here?" Kale asked from across the room.
Wolfe was giving Raven strange vibes. He was clearly relieved he was back but he seemed... almost angry. He was glaring slightly at him. |
Blaze sighed a little and went back over to Kale. "... Three weeks," she tried to explain once more.
Raven seemed very aware of the vibe he was getting from Wolfe. He seemed rather clueless about the cause of it, but he kept some distance between them. He was just glad to see him and to be back. So he'd let Wolfe come over if he wanted to talk about it. |
